Adopted! Meet Raven. This sweet girl was pulled from the Albuquerque shelter and brought into the Luvin’ Labs family. She is about 9 years old, but she likes to run around the yard like a puppy, she’s just full of energy. She’s on the small side, only coming in at about 67 pounds. One of her favorite things to do is chase tennis balls (good lab!) and she walks great on a leash. She is a very sweet girl who needs nothing more than to live out her golden years in a happy and loving home. She is now safe in foster and her foster mom says she is just a wonderful dog! She probably wasn’t treated all that well in her previous life, but despite that, she loves people. She is doing great with my other dogs, very submissive with them, and her tail never stops wagging. In fact, her whole body wags when she wags her tail. She is housebroken and uses the doggy door. She is just a happy girl and a joy to have around the house. The very first thing she did when I brought her home was go outside and jump in the kiddy pool. She is going to make some family a wonderful dog. Please give us a call if you’d like to meet beautiful Raven at 505) 362-0331. She’ll be waiting!
Adopted! Hi! My name is Sierra, and I’m two year old chocolate lab girl who just loves pets and to be loved on … see my picture? I was in danger in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and now am safe and in boarding with Luvin’ Labs. I’m looking for a foster home, or better yet, a forever home with someone who loves chocolate (who doesn’t love chocolate?) girls who are as sweet as they come! I’m the sweetest girl in the world, I love people, but I really don’t like other dogs too much, something in my past has made me just want to be the center of attention … and boy do I love attention! I’ll roll of on my back for wigly squigly tummy rubs : ) For more information on me, Sierra, please call 505/362-0331. 3/14/11 update on Sierra … “What a sweetheart. She loves to put her paws in her water, she loves to try to hug you, walks great on a leash. I think she is spayed and loves to be loved. She is probably about 75 pounds. I think she could lose a little weight (exercise) but you would think she is just big boned. She is so so sweet and a perfect girl. When walking her today, several people commented on how beautiful she was” Sierra knows how to sit, and shake!!
Adopted! Bambi is a 3yr old labrador retriever with a temperament as sweet as his name. Bambi loves other dogs, and is the adoptive “daddy” to several puppies at the shelter where he was staying. He is super with human children too. This beautiful guy knows “sit” and like most labs, will do anything for a treat. Bambi’s former owner worked at a dog daycare where she brought him each day and he was perfectly behaved, but when she changed careers, she did not have a place to bring Bambi, and he became a primarily outdoor dog. Last month, his owner noticed him limping and realized that she would not be able to provide him with medical attention, so she brought him to the shelter in Espanola, where the source of his problems was discovered. Bambi has a bum full of buckshot! Possibly from the buckshot, or possibly from a separate injury, this big boy has damage to his hip that will require surgery. Luvin’ Labs is working to raise the funds for an FHO and biopsy of the damaged joint, and in the meantime, Bambi is waiting patiently in his foster home. As foster mom sends us updates on this lovely dog, we will post more information, but he became such a staff favorite here at the shelter, that we sure hope that he will work his way into someone’s heart and loving permanent home quickly. For more information on fostering, adopting or donating to help Bambi please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Meet Zeus. Zeus looks to be a purebred black Labrador Retriever and he ran out of time down in Valencia so we’re bringing him up to Albuquerque tomorrow. We would love to have a foster home for this beautiful, 4 year old boy to land in. He sure sits pretty!! Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet handsome Zeus.
Adopted! Kane is a beautiful 4 year old white lab with a dash of Great Pyrenees in him. He came to us from the Dallas, Texas area and is currently in foster in Albuquerque. He’d love to find a home if at all possible with his big pack sister Stella, but can be placed separately as well. From Kane’s foster dad … “Kane is a large yellow boy with a friendly disposition to both people and other dogs. He enjoys chasing other dogs at the dog park without getting into unfriendly altercations. He enjoys walks or short jogs around the neighborhood. Kane prefers sleeping at the side of his peoples bed; however, he is in tune with the environment around him and will alert if he hears unaccustomed noises outside the house. His size and bark will definitely intimidate most would-be burglars. He will do good with an active family that will ensure he gets plenty of exercise by taking him hiking, jogging, or the local dog park for off-leash activities. He rides will inside a truck or automobile.” For more information on Kane please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Stella is a very sweet 8 year old black lab who just arrived in Albuquerque from a Dallas Texas shelter. She’s currently in foster in ABQ and is doing great! Here’s what her foster Mom has to say, “ We went for a walk yesterday, which she LOVED. She pulled a bit at first, but she settled down after a few minutes. She did really well around the house this weekend and likes to sleep on her doggie bed in my room at night. She hasn’t had any accidents in the house yet; she will let you know when she has to go outside. She goes to the backdoor and looks out and gives a small bark to let you know she wants out.
She loves being pet, of course, but she also seems perfectly content to be exploring the backyard. She has a lot of energy for a 8 year old lab, and she gets around really well. She is super friendly and wanted to meet everyone and every dog we passed on our walk. She went right up to my neighbor with her tail wagging, waiting for some attention. I haven’t noticed any food or toy aggression at all. She’s really a great dog, and I think would like to be in an active household, given her energy level.” For more information on sweet Stella please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Sadie is a 9 year old purebred black lab. She is great with children and adults, as well as other dogs and cats. Sadie has an excellent temperament and is very mellow. She is housebroken, crate trained, and knows how to use a doggie door. Sadie loves attention and follows me everywhere I go. She loves long walks and does very well on leash. Sadie is a large, tall, lanky girl (we call her our gentle giant). She doesn’t act like a 9 year old dog; she is still energetic and playful. She gets so excited when I come home from work. Sadie is extremely intelligent and very obedient. Sadie is an indoor dog and is not destructive. She will sleep quietly on the couch when left alone in the house. For information about adopting this beautiful girl please call 505-362-0331.
Adopted! Lilly was out of time down in Valencia so Luvin’ Labs brought her up to Albuquerque and she’s now in a loving foster home. She is two months old and we think Golden Retriever and Lab mix. How any one could let this adorable girl go missing is a mystery, but she is our gain. If you’d like to meet this fuzzy bundle of love, please call us at 505) 362-0331 and ask about our little Lilly. Update from Lilly’s foster mom … “Lilly is wonderful! No accidents in the house if she’s taken out every hour, she sleeps all night in a crate, does great with other dogs, and is very gentle with my foster kittens. She LOVES to lie by me and follows me everywhere!”
Happy April at her foster home!
Sad April at the shelter …
ADOPTED by her foster! This is sweet April. April ran out of time at the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Carlsbad so we arranged transport for her to come up to Albuquerque. She appears to be a purebred yellow lab, and she’s about 3 years old. She was used as a breeding dog and then left in the shelter in the overnight drop off when her “owner” was through with her. She is a very sweet girl, a little scared and a bit on the fluffy side. April is currently in a loving foster home and doing well. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet our April.
April Update on 4/17: I asked April to introduce herself. Here’s what she had to say. ” I’m a shy and quiet young lady. I prefer to warm up to one person at a time with tummy rubs and soft voices. Then I’m all yours. I’ve not been around a lot of house noises, but it doesn’t take me long to get used to them. I’m already learning what a vacuum is. I’m house trained, and once I am comfortable in your house, I love to lay in my crate..with the door open, of course, as long as you are nearby. You can trust me at night in or out of the crate. Since I have had puppies, I’ve put on a few pounds and could use your help getting me down to somewhere in the low/mid 50 pound range. I was just spayed, but once I get the ok from my doctor, I’m ready to walk and shed these pounds. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.”
Adopted! Simba is here with us from the great folks in Missouri. His former owner’s job changed caused him to travel and live in a travel trailer. He decided Simba deserved a better life. Simba is a neutered 5-6 year old white male lab who is wonderful with kids, wonderful with other dogs, and all over a great loving boy who doesn’t understand why he isn’t still with his family. Can you help us to find Simba his forever home? For more information please call 505/362-0331. 8/15/10 Update from Simba’s foster mom … “Simba is doing great with the other dogs. He is stabilized and adjusted and even happy when we get home. If you look at him, pet him, or talk to him his super size tail starts thumping away! Simba is great with kids and our other dogs.” For more information on Simba please call 505/362-0331
Boone went to his forever home with another rescue. Yay Boone! Hi my name is Boone. If you have been following me on Luvin Labs website there are a few things I think you should know. My age was listed at 5-6 years old. Upon further investigation by the vet looking in my eyes, my true age has come to light. It is really 9 maybe 10. I lost count a long time ago. My life has been full of adventure and intrigue. I grew up near the border. My first gig was at a junk yard. It wasn’t all bad I did not enjoy being chained up during the day, but it was great having the run of the place at night. After the owner figured out I had no real guard dog attributes, I was let go. From there I went to an old couple that kept me in the backyard. They where nice and kind to me, but I was always outside. When they got too old to care for me, I was turned loose. I ended up in Jail ( animal shelter) in Las Cruces. I was just about out of time when a Lab rescue group in Albuquerque came to my rescue. I’m now at a foster home and boy has the house training been tough. But I finally got it,and I’m liking the life of a house dog. So here is the deal. I’m looking for a forever home where I can pass my golden years. My foster laughs at me when I get up and hustle out the door with a purpose, but by the time I reach the end of the patio I’ve forgotten why I went out there in the first place. I have one speed and that is slow. I walk on a leash at the slowest pace possible without stopping. I really like being with people when I’m awake.(I like to take lots of naps). I get along with all dogs, but I must admit I’m a little grumpy around young dogs and all their energy. I’m not food aggressive; I do not jump on you when you get home. I’m a good dog looking for a good forever home. For more information on Boone please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! My name is Jack, I’m in doggie jail but I don’t quite get what that is … I’m a cute little pup who is just waiting for his family to come get him. Is that you?? I’m lonely in here, there’s food, and water and that’s about it … not a lot for a pup to do. I’m cute as pie, did you see my picture? For more information on me, JACK!!! Please call Luvin’ Labs at 505/362-0331, or email my good friend Connie at lobo@tularosa.net and she’ll help spring me out of doggie jail and get me up to you. Right now I’m in the Tularosa area, but I’ll hitch a ride if your ready to meet me!

Adopted! Hello. My name is Brewser. I am a 2 year old male black lab. My loving family lost their home, so I am homeless as well. I am a loving lab and I would sure like to find a place that I can share with you. I love to swim, play with children and cuddle with adults and kids. I get along well with other dogs and I love to sleep right next to my family. I love going for walks and I just about go crazy when I see my leash. When you come to see me, I will give you a quick kiss and hope that you will take me home. If you are interested in me please contact Lovin Labs at 505-362-0331. Ask for Brewser.
Adopted! Buddy is an beautiful chocolate lab who is around 4 years old and was recently rescued. He is currently in foster in the Santa Fe area, just waiting for his forever home. He has one big wagging tail, and a body to follow. Buddy interacts with other dogs well, but does come on with a little excitement and energy like a typical lab. He is very attentive to correction and already trained to sit/down/shake. Buddy takes treats with a soft mouth and is okay on a leash. Like most labs, he wants to be with “you”, and is very people social, with anice disposition. Would do best in a home with dog-dedicated owners, exercise, long walks, and play time. For more information on Buddy please call Donna at Dew paws Rescue at 505/412-9096 or email leshalert@yahoo.com
Adopted! This is Miya, a two year old, beautiful black lab mix who is now in foster in Albuquerque after she ran out of time at the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Carlsbad. From Miya’s foster mom: Miya is a very sweet girl that bonds very quickly. She loves people, kids, and other dogs, but I don’t know about cats. She loves kids so much that I saw her at the recycling event actually move around adults so that she could give little kisses to the kids that were with the adults. She loves to chase after tennis balls and other toys, and loves to run around with the other dogs in the yard. She seems quite intelligent, and I think training her will be fairly easy. She’s housebroken and knows how to use the dog door. She does fine in a crate and in the house, showing no destructive tendencies. She walks pretty well on the leash, hardly pulling at all. I think she will make a wonderful new member for some lucky family out there. She is mostly black except for a white splash on her chest and tummy and her 4 white polka dot feet which are absolutely adorable, and she has the softest fur and ears, which she will let you pet and brush as long as you like. She might be mixed with Newfie but we don’t know for sure. She’s a fairly tall, slim girl, coming in at only 67 pounds. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet beautiful Miya.

Adopted! We want to give this sweet boy time to adjust, to acclimate, and most importantly, to be loved.
My name is Scottie. I like children. I am told labs like to run and play but I do not know because I lived in a back yard. My owner’s chained me. I would love to have a home were someone would go for walks with me and pet me and play ball with me. I am shy but really sweet and warm up really quick. Would you give me a chance? Scottie is coming to Luvin Labs from a great sister rescue in the Tularosa area. But … we are full up at boarding, and this sweet boy certainly deserves a foster home to come to so Scottie can feel the love and care all Labs deserve. Can you help Scottie? If so, please phone 505/362-0331. Thank you, love Scottie!
Bob-a-lue
Adopted! Hello everyone. I am Bob-a-lue. I am a young (10 month) old male black lab looking for a new home in the Land of Enchantment. I am in the process of moving from Kansas and headed to Albuquerque in search of a new home. I am a bunch of fun and I love to play. As you can see from the photograph, I will be bring lots of toys. I am almost housebroken for any new family. I love to play with other dogs and I love to be chased by children. If you are interested in me please contact Luvin Labs Rescue in Albuquerque, New Mexico at 505- 362-0331.
Adopted! Codi is a 6 year old very sweet girl. She is housebroken. She loves people of all ages. She gets along with other dogs of all sizes but does not play with them. She ignores the cat. Working on the leash. She is learning to control her excitement and not jump up. I think she is starting to realize that she going to be loved and that we are not going to be mean to her. I am a stay at home mom so I do not have to leave her by herself for long periods. She does cry and bark at first but settles down ( my mom is my neighbor ) she just really wants to be around people:) oooh and she likes to lay on the couch which all my dogs lay on the couch so I can’t brake her of that lol. She wanted to sleep on the bed but my 5 pound pom would not let her lol. For more information on Codi please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! Meet Lila. Poor Lila finds herself in a dangerous place, the Clovis Animal Shelter. She is a small black lab mix pup in a world full of black dogs too often overlooked. Adopted! Sweet Braedon found himself out of time in the El Paso Shelter. Luckily a sister rescue’s volunteer was at the shelter. Braedon is 10 months to a year old, and sweet as pie. At the shelter he was a favorite, and remarkably calm and sweet. He hitched a ride to Albuquerque with an adopter from El Paso and is currently in boarding and doing great. For more information on sweet Braedon please call 505/362-0331. He’s patiently waiting for his foster or forever home!
Adopted! Cisco is a one year old lab who recently arrived from the Roswell shelter and is looking his forever home. From Cisco’s foster dad… “Cisco is housebroken, crate trained, and knows how to walk well on a leash. He knows his basic commands like sit and stay. He LOVES to go for car rides : ) and does great with other dogs and people. He wants to be with his people and is very smart and a fast learner.” For more information on Cisco please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Sweet Penny… Penny’s story is a sad one, but we’re hoping that some wonderful person out there will see it and decide that Penny deserves a second chance. Penny is a rottweiler mix, possibly with lab but the shelter really doesn’t know for sure. She is black and brown and is a large size dog. She has pretty black wavy fur on her back. She is 5 years old, and her id number is C11-000468 at the Rio Rancho Animal Control in Rio Rancho, NM, 505/891-5075. Penny ended up at the shelter because her owner passed away, and Penny spent several days with her owner until they were both found. She is a sweet girl but very traumatized being at the shelter. She’s been there since March 25 which doesn’t leave her a lot of time to find a family or rescue. The brother of her owner is desperately trying to find someone to take in this lovely girl as he can’t keep her. Even the animal control officers are hoping to find her a new home, so you know she must be a good dog. I only spent a short amount of time with her, but she’s friendly, knows several of her commands, and her eyes followed me everywhere I went. We are hoping that Penny’s story will touch someone’s heart, and they will get this sweet girl out of the shelter. Please call them and ask about her if you think you can help. Thank you! 4/13/11 Update: I went to visit Penny today and got to spend some time with her outside of her cage. What a sweet girl. Still very frightened at the shelter but she did give me little kisses after she got to know me a bit. I was told that her person actually had 3 dogs and now Penny is the only one left at the shelter. We’re still hoping that someone will fall in love with this girl as much as we have.
Adopted! Aspen is a beautiful chocolate lab female found wandering as a stray in Farmington, New Mexico. She will be with Luvin’ Labs and available to meet her forever family! She is good with other dogs, very sweet, and a bit on the skinny side. What a beautiful name for such a beautiful smaller female chocolate lab. She had puppies, and hopefully they all got adopted to a nice home! Aspen loves love and snuggling. She is gorgeous! Too bad such a young girl had to be put through this. On the ride to boarding she just snuggled up to me and wanted to be loved. She is such a sweet girl, well behaved and gentle. Aspen is currently in foster and doing very well. Our vet thinks she’s about a year and a half old. For more information on meeting beautiful Aspen please call 505/362-0331

ADOPTED!!! Folks sweet Sarah is running out of time …. our volunteer knows this girl well and would love to take her home if she wasn’t fostering for us … please help us find a place for her?
Hi, my name is Sarah! I would love to get out of here……my family had to move to an apartment, so they turned me in to find a new home and family to love me. They think I’m a black Lab and Irish Wolfhound mix! Both Labs and Wolfhounds have easy going natures, tend to be easy to train, are loyal family dogs and Wolfhounds tend to be quiet by nature. I am a family dog that loves to be with its people, and I’m only 3 years old so being in this cage is not good for me. Here’s what my family had to say, I am good with kids, I don’t dig or jump fences, I’m not destructive and I don’t bark. How great is that?! I have the sweetest personality and best of all, I love tummy rubs. I am ready for a new loving home and hope you will call to meet me at the Rio Rancho Animal Control 505/891-7237 and ask about animal ID C11-000017, that’s me. I’ll be here, can’t wait to meet you!!
I smile!
I love tummy rubs too!!
Adopted! Hello, my name is Gracie. I was rescued by an angel off the streets of El Paso and transported to Los Lunas where I am living with my foster family which includes a new dog and cat friends. I am very sweet and smart, about a year and a half old. I haven’t barked since arriving at my new home, and learned the dog door in minutes and haven’t had any accidents. My El Paso angel kept me in a crate when she was at work and at night, and I didn’t mind that one bit. My previous owners cropped my tail so my rear end looks a little odd for a lab, but I am small only 45 pounds and very sweet and gentle. Please consider making me a part of your family. I have a lot of love to give ! For more information on Gracie please call 505/362-0331 3/12/11 Update from Gracie’s foster mom … “Gracie is a calm and sweet girl. She likes being around people, lounging around, and loves food. She is good with my toddler. She gets along well with other dogs, and especially likes to rest next to foster Aspen.”
Adoption Pending Meet Mac! He’s a bit confused … his family dropped him off today at the Valencia Shelter, where over crowding causes owner surrenders to have very little time. They moved, he didn’t. Mac is a beautiful white/yellow lab who is already neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, and is great health. He is great with kids, other dogs, and even loves cats. We are currently scrounging for a foster home for for this beautiful boy, and even more hopefully a loving, stable forever home. For more information on Mac please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted! My name is TRITON, and I am a neutered male, black and white Labrador Retriever mix. A wonderful volunteer here at the shelter has spent time with me and says this: ” He’s a wonderful boy, big and very sweet with a terrific personality.” I just need a bit of training and attention. I can jump fences but would love to learn not to with YOU! I have been available for adoption since Feb 24, 2011 and would really like to find a forever home……this cage is not suited well to my personality. PLEASE CONSIDER ME! The shelter thinks I am about 5 years old. For more information about Triton, call: Albuquerque Animal Services – Eastside at (505) 768-1975. Ask for information about animal ID number A1547490.

ADOPTED! Bosley and his brother Bartley and sister Brandy, are siblings of Luvin’ Labs alumni Summer, Polly and Chase. All six pups were living in a decrepit, condemned home in Artesia, NM with an owner who couldn’t afford food, but wouldn’t give them up. Bartley and Bosley were at the shelter there, then reclaimed by their “owner” to go back to living in squalor, only to be found again scrounging for food. Advocate Cindy in Artesia worked long and hard to find the pups and bring them safely in to the shelter where they could be transported to Albuquerque and graciously fostered with a few of their siblings’ families. The pups are labs/weim mixes and are fabulous dogs. All are available for adoption through Luvin’ Labs. For more information on giving Bartley and Bosley a warm, safe place to spend the rest of their lives please call 505/362-0331. All the pups are now in foster, Bartley and Bosley together in the same foster home!

For more information on giving Bartley a warm, safe place to spend the rest of his life please call 505/362-0331. From Bartley’s foster mom …”Bartley is loving and enthusiastic. Bartley is a lab lover’s lab. Though probably a mix, he has the strong build and full head of a lab and like any dog bred to work, has the capacity to focus on the task at hand with single-mindedness. At this time, his favorite task is to chew on rawhide bones which he does with determination though, thankfully, he isn’t interested in chewing on things he shouldn’t chew on! He seems to understand my elderly father’s limits and has been generally friendly yet gentle with him.”

Bartley, aren’t I handsome?

Adopted! Hello, my name is KAIDEN and I am one hunk of a Lab boy! Luvin’ Labs helped me out when I was about to be surrendered to the Garland Shelter in Texas, and I was fostered and transported by wonderful volunteers. I am a fabulous, beautiful almost one year old boy. I LOVE to play! I am good with other dogs, don’t mind cats, and love to have lots of room to run, and other pups to play with. Someone in my past taught me good table manners because I eat slowly and chew carefully and gently take treats from your hand. I’ll even wait until you say it’s ok. Please phone to meet me. We could be best of friends. 505/362-0331

Arlie is heart worm positive which means he will need to be evaluated by our vets to see if he is high or low positive. That will determine whether he is to undergo full heart worm treatment or only to be treated on the preventative continually. He is a wonderful boy, sweet, mellow, well behaved and in need of immediate foster once he arrives. ADOPTED! Meet Rosie, a new addition to Luvin’ Labs brought up by the good folks at Las Cruces Animal Services of the Mesilla Valley just in the nick of time! Rosie (formerly Noorah), is a lab/pointer mix who loves to hunt. Like a lot of bird dogs, she’ll need consistent training and can be strong willed. She is great with kids and other dogs. She’s curious about most things, but once she understands what they are, she loses interest. She is working on her leash training as she is most interested in hunting when out on a walk or hike and tugs. She has a lot of energy and needs exercise to wear her down. Rosie knows sit and is working on “down”. She’s definitely curious about cats and will chase them if they run. We’re working on being friendly with cats. Don’t let her small size fool you. She’s skinny and needs to put on weight, but she’s a strong little girl. She loves her toys, and if allowed will shred them – all that pent up energy needs to escape somehow! Rosie is crate-trained and shows no signs of separation anxiety. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her shots. For more information on Rosie please call 505/362-0331. 2/20/11 Update from Rosie’s foster dad … “Rosie is a very playful young girl who wins over your heart with her friendly disposition. She is very energetic and loves to play with other dogs. She has an active hunting instinct which she demonstrates by watching birds in the trees and chasing squirrels. She is house trained and is adept at using a dog door for bathroom necessities. She sleeps quietly through the night in a crate and lets you know she is hungry when time to eat breakfast. When she is tired at the end of the day, she will curl up on a sofa or strat-o-lounger and sleep. This girl is very intelligent, very quick in her mannerisms, and can run and jump with the best of her peers. She stands her ground against dogs that want to dominate her. She is defensive upon first meeting other dogs but warms up to them if they treat her well.”
Rosie playing with her foster siblings Rex and Coco!
Adopted! Chloe was surrendered to the Albuquerque Shelter because her families newest addition had asthma. The sweet girl was brought in to one of Luvin’ Labs foster homes and is doing great. She is around 10 years old and a big happy lab, around 100 pounds. For more information on Chloe please call 505/362-0331. 2/9/11 update from Chloe’s foster mom … “ I’m Chloe and yes my heart is as big as me. I am a lovely 100 lb girl who is on a bit of a diet (to my dismay). I came from the shelter where my family of 10 years could no longer keep me because they had a new addition to the family who was allergic. I spent most of my time outside there after the baby arrived, but I have transitioned beautifully into an indoor girl. I love this house life. While I may be larger and older than some labs, I still like to play and frolic in my own way. I ”buck” like a little pony and attempt to chase my tail. In my foster home, I live with 2 good sized dogs and cats and other small pets. I am a little peskywith the cats but they are trying hard to teach me good manners. I am getting better on my walks. I do pull a bit for about 5-10m minutes then I settle down. I “adore” food and am leaning to sit for my meals and treats. I am friendly and easy going. I am getting over an ear infection and kennel cough and feeling much better every day. I am patiently waiting for my forever home… is that yours??”
Adopted! Monty’s family moved. Poor boy, he spent the first 12 months of his entire life in an outdoor kennel, and was just left behind. They turned him loose down in Clovis, NM, a young, sweet lab mix boy to fend on his own. A caring family found him and is fostering him until we find his forever home. Monty is about a year old, a very sweet, energetic young boy. He has a wee bit of white on his chest, and a docked tail (??) and is smaller than a big lab. Monty was literally starving and dodging cars when his foster mom decided to rescue him. He is now doing great in foster and he LOVES to toss and play with his favorite pink gorilla toy. For more information on Monty please call 505/362-0331. Monty is in Albuquerque in boarding and anxiously waiting for a foster or forever home. 1/22/11 update from Monty’s foster mom … “ Even though it is apparent that his previous owners neglected him, Monty loves to play! He loves belly rubs and is anxious to please. He loves other dogs and wonders why the cats don’t want to play with him! Follows me around everywhere I go!”
Monty says “HI!”
Monty loves to be held : )
My name is Nalla … I recently had puppies and my people left me at the shelter ….I am now safe, and in foster with Luvin’ Labs … and waiting for you to help me get to my forever home??

ADOPTED! Folks, sweet Jefferson has been fighting what we know is pnemonia but he has not responded to 3 different antibiotics and after a week at TLC Vet Hospital, he’ moved Thursday night to VCA for evaluation by a specialist. Luvin’ Labs donors work hard to help us out, but we are almost at the point where we will not have funds to keep helping this sweet boy. Jefferson is absolutely a gem of a lab and, at just 10 months old, deserves a chance. If any of you can help out we’d be so appreciative. To help Jefferson out please click here http://www.luvinlabs.com/donate/
1/28/11 am update. We just spoke to the good doc at VCA and he will be doing a test this morning to see if they can figure out what the bug is in his chest. We will keep you updated on their findings. Thank you to all of you who have helped thus far, it is a terribly hard thing to try to decide what is best for one, while we have many in need. We appreciate you.
1/29/11 update. Jefferson ate a little bit today a few times, this is great news as he hasn’t felt like eating since a week ago Thursday. He loves to be up and moving around and seems to enjoy his visits from his foster mom, myself, and others that stop by. We switched his antibiotics yesterday, hopefully the new ones do the trick and help Jefferson to begin to heal!
1/31/11 update… Jefferson hung out at the vets office today, after eating regular, small meals … we are so thrilled that he is eating!Ronight he is going home to get some TLC at a families house. We are hoping he is on the mend … he sure has had enough good thoughts going his way! We still are in dire need of funds to help us offset his medical bills that we’ve yet to pay, and to care for all the other wonderful pups in our program. As always, we are incredibly grateful to each and everyone of you!!
2/6/11 Update … Best news ever, the vets cannot put their fingers on why but Jefferson continues to improve, and best of all, eat ! He is now spending a lot of time at his new loving home, and eating whatever he likes for now (any lab would love that). He’s still on antibiotics, but the eating, and general interest in life are great indicators. We are hopeful for a full recovery : )
Here’s a few pics of Jefferson recovering with his family.
Luvin’ Labs is now trying to figure out how to pay off the $2700.00 worth of vet bills we incurred while taking care of Jefferson. We’ve made some headway through the generosity of wonderful folks, but to keep on helping labs like Jefferson and treat the labs in our program currently we need to keep on raising funds. We are eternally appreciative of any help.
Adoption Pending! Hello everyone! I came to Luvin’ Labs from a sister rescue in Missouri that cannot help me out. I bet you haven’t seen such a handsome chocolate Lab EVER. I am special, you know. I am sweet as can be, 10 months old and great with other dogs. I’m a bit of a Lab/Chesapeake Retriever mix which makes me all the more interesting, doesn’t it? The gals at Luvin’ Labs tell me I have the most beautiful green eyes! I’m a pup very excited about moving to New Mexico, and am looking for a loving family to share my life with. I promise to be loving and loyal and look forward to learning some doggie training tips. Can you make room for me? Please phone 505/362-0331 and get more details…..and show your interest in me! Thank you, Jefferson. (p.s. my foster mom says I’m very good with other dogs!!)
Bella ADOPTED! is a beautiful two-three year old spayed yellow lab female who is currently in foster in Clovis, NM. She is an incredible girl who is very sweet, house trained, docile, good with other dogs, and just waiting for her forever home! We will arrange for transport to ABQ for the perfect forever home! For more information on Bella please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Hello my name is Zen! If you have been following me on the web site you know I was adopted then let go, ending up in the city shelter. I moved to a new foster’s home and boy what a difference he sees in me! When I got here they kept telling me how bad my manners were. I loved to put my front paws on the counters and check everything out. How was I to know that was wrong? And what is this about waiting for them to go through the door first? I say they need to move faster like me. Again another bad idea. In just a few days I’m amazed at how much the foster has learned. Now instead of telling me to get off the counters 10 times it only takes him one. Since it so important to him, I let them go first always now. They are so trainable. What really surprised me is how fast they took to walking on leash.
What my foster dad sees in me … There is lots to mention … I’m curious, I have a very loving nature, I’m bold, friendly, and have no aggressions about food, dogs or people. I am not afraid of new sounds or sites. I’m house broken, am not destructive to property, and crate trained. I’m easy to train and pick things up fast. The fosters say I’m destined to be a pack leader some day. Given the chance I would make a great service dog. I LOVE to play. The foster told me I’m the first foster dog they have had that figured out the ball is just the means to an end(running), not the end itself (possessing the ball). I’m still young and need 3-4 walks a week to keep me calm. I prefer to have free roam of the house. If you’re looking for a dog that is beautiful (I had to throw that in), loves to be with you on walks, camping, playing ball in the yard or watching a good movie together, I’m the dog for you. For more information on me please call 505/362-0331.
AdoptedHi! I am a beautiful yellow Lab boy named Dusty just waiting for the perfect loving home. I am 1 year old all caught up on my shots and neutered. The only thing left to do with me is to love me! I love to go for walks and runs and play fetch with the tennis ball. That’s how I have the most fun. I would need you to spend some time training me though as my first family didn’t have the time to dedicate to training me. I have lots of toys and stuff that I can bring to your house when you adopt me. Can we give it a try? Please call 505/362-0331 for more information on me, I’m very sweet!. I can’t wait to meet you! … “Dusty is in foster now and his new mom had this to say: Dusty is just a wonderfully sweet boy! He is great in the house – no chewing or marking and it totally housetrained. He loves to run and play and loves other dogs. He loves his toys: squeaky toys (not for long), tug/rope toys, balls, and bones. He really enjoys playing Fetch. He is wonderful with people and wants to be with his family more than anything. He does great in a crate , knows all the basic commands and is very smart. He loves to be close to his folks and just look at them with love and adoration shining out of his eyes. He is just a real sweetheart!”

Adopted Tiggo is my name and as you can see I am really gorgeous! I have dreamy eyes and a soft muzzle with a touch of white and big soft velvety ears. I’m about as perfect of an adult Lab as they come! At 7 yrs old I am really looking forward to being loved on and playing with a new forever family. I am lucky to be in a nice foster home now and doing really well, saved from the shelter, and having fun with my four legged pals here. My foster mom says I am so so sweet…..and I have only been here a day or two. Imagine how lovey I will be after getting to know you really well in your house! I did see a cat here and took notice with great curiosity but as soon as that furry friend disappeared and went on her way I forgot about her……….I don’t think cats look that interesting or threatening to me. I would love to meet a new family that would care for me in return for all my love and loyalty back ten fold. I am mature and not so silly as a puppy but not too old to love with all my heart! Playing together and long walks sound really good, not to mention just being a couch potato if you let me. I am going to listen for the phone to ring…..maybe it will be YOU wanting to meet ME. Sounds like a dream come true. Please phone to find out more about adopting me 505/362-0331.
Pretty girl Tiggo in her own movie!!

Adopted! Meet our sweet girl Princess Nikita! Princess Nikita is one fabulous girl that is currently in foster care who is all ready for a home of her very own! She is a very sweet girl who was rescued from a bad situation and now needs your help in finding her forever home! Are you the perfect match for her? Princess Nikita is an AKC Registered, Pure Bred Yellow Labrador Retriever. She was born March 16, 2010 and is just over a year old. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her shots and wormed and all ready to go. Princess Nikita loves other dogs and playing. She would do great in a home with another dog her size that can play with her and be her best friend, but she’d probably also be ok in a home as an only dog. Princess Nikita loves people and kids and is very friendly and warm and did we mention she is a complete lovebug and snuggler too? She often thinks she is a lap dog and will happily sit beside you for lots of loving and belly rubs. Princess Nikita is very smart and learns fast. She is totally housetrained and knows basic commands including sit and shake. She also loves playing fetch and yes, she LOVES the water and loves to swim. She is also fantastic on a leash and loves going for walks. Princess Nikita is a young, active dog and would love to be in a home with a family where she gets plenty of playtime, exercise and lots and lots of love. She told us she wouldn’t mind going to the lake or playing and swimming in a kiddie pool. She’s really excited because summer is just around the corner. Princess Nikita had a rough start to life with a family that didn’t care for her and is now with a temporary foster and needs to find a family of her very own that will love her forever! She is a wonderful dog that will make some lucky family very happy! If you’d like to adopt Princess Nikita please contact Luvin Labs at 505-362-0331.

Adopted! Hi! My name is Evie! I am a beautiful young lab stuck in the Rio Rancho Shelter. Our advocate spent some time with her today and here’s what she had to say …”Evie knows how to sit for her treats! She is a very friendly, young lab (around a year old). She loves to play, likes to chase so probably would love a tennis ball, love to give puppy kisses. Her coat is in very good shape so she belonged to someone. She looks to be very high content lab. The man who brought her in said she ran right up to him and sat down for him. No problem getting her into the car to take to animal control. ” For more information on Evie please call Rio Rancho Animal Control at 505-891-5075 and ask for animal id C11-000264
Bella ADOPTED is 8 -9 mos old female black lab. She lived with her canine mom & the last 2 litters of her pups, but Bella was one they could never get anyone to take…so she grew up. Now she is too old to be cute like the new pups :( She got out of a very neglectful situation where it was said that some of the other pups that they couldn’t find homes for just ”disappeared”. Don’t know how Bella escaped that same fate, but she made it here to us safely. I would say, Bella is one of the LUCKY ones!! Bella would love a home with other dogs, her own yard & a safe, comfy bed inside to snuggle in! Bella will now walk on leash – not well, but she is learning fast. She is a wonderfully sweet girl who is totally black and really gorgeous. She loves her people and bonds to them quickly. She wants to be loved and treasured. She is VERY soft, seems very healthy, and does fine in a crate and with other dogs. YOU WILL LOVE HER! For more information on Bella please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! Folks … Koll only has a few weeks, until March 18, to find a new family … his family is unfortunately having to move into an apartment and they cannot take their sweet boy with them. Koll’s mom has nothing but great things to say about their boy … “Koll is about 2 years old. We got him as a rescue from his previous owner who basically left him in the back yard all alone and didn’t interact much with him. Koll is a very mild-tempered boy, who will sit next to you and lay down next to you wherever you are. He likes human company, does well around our 5-year old daughter and my teenage kids. He likes to have his tummy rubbed or his neck scratched. He is potty trained and barks when he has to go outside. He does well with other dogs, likes to play and runs a lot. He would much rather have a buddy to play with than spend his time alone. Koll is very protective of his family and has to know who any visitors to your home are so he can be at ease. Koll walks great on a leash! He may seem a bit shy at first but when he knows he can count on you to be loving and tender, he warms up really fast and will never leave your side. Please take my Koll, we are moving to an apartment March 18th and can’t take him.” For more information on fostering or adopting Koll please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Meet Victor. Victor is a purebred yellow Labrador retriever available for adoption at the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Carlsbad. He has been available for adoption since March 21. This poor guy sure looks unsure of what his future holds. If you’d like to meet this beautiful boy, please call the shelter at 575) 885-5769 and ask about animal id# 12722558 but don’t wait too long, this is a small shelter that is very full.
Riley smiles!
Adopted!! from Riley’s family … “Riley is 5 years old. We adopted her in December 2007 from Watermelon Mountain. She is spayed. She is very good with people, kids in particular. With three kids in the home, they have a lot of friends over, and she interacts very well with them. Though we do not have other dogs, she has always behaved well with the neighborhood dogs at the dog park. She is still very high energy, so ideally needs a big yard, but at the least needs a good walk every day. She is good on the leash and when we go running in the desert she always stays nearby. She is house broken. She is very verbal, which is a good thing when she’s letting us know that something outside is upsetting her, but can be a nuisance when she is just announcing that someone is home, which she does every time. She is also very physical and likes to be right by you as much as possible.” For more information on Riley please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Buddy needs to find a new home … poor boy, can you help? From Buddy’s mom … “What can we say… he’s AMAZING! Buddy is a 6 year old male labrador, who has been part of our family for the past 7 months. He is such a layed-back, mild-mannered boy. When we rescued him from the city shelter he was about 116 pounds and diagnosed by our vet as being obese. We are working towards getting him closer to 85 pounds with daily walks, running is just too much for his body right now, and prescription diet food. Buddy is fabulous with children, other dogs and people in general. My 5 and 3 year old lay on him, sit on him and pretend he is their pony. He is house trained, knows quite a few commands (sit, stay, shake, and out) and loves to lay right by you and have his tummy rubbed. We are just saddened to have to give him up, but hope that a loving family will take him in. After going through a divorce and trying to juggle kids, finding work and all the responsibilities of being a single mom, we can no longer provide him the attention he requires. If you are looking for an easy-going lab, that your family could love, play with and take on daily walks, BUDDY is your guy!” For more information on Buddy please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Ruger is a 4 year old male chocolate Lab. He is AKC registered and will be neutered through Luvin Labs. Both his father and mother have earned Master Hunter certificates which accounts for his intelligence (most time he is too smart for his own good!) He is good around smaller dogs and seems to have a lot of patience with their shenanigans. He has not been around many children, but the ones he has have been good experiences. He is house and car broken, and is crate trained, his crate seems to be his most prized possession. He is hand and voice trained to a point, but some lessons to reinforce the training should be in order. Ruger does well in a fenced yard and has never learned that he can jump. He walks well on a leash after the first couple minutes he uses to bounce and release pent up energy. His shots are current, but I would expect anyone who adopts him to take him to the vet for a full checkup. He loves to play ball and will readily bring the ball to you, then sit down and wait for you to take it from him. For more information on Ruger please call 505/362-0331
ADOPTED Brewski is the most wonderful dog in so many ways. He is very lovable, trained very well, and kid friendly. However, we live in base housing in Clovis and he barks all day long at the runners behind our house and even though I take him running every morning our small back yard does not give him the exercise he needs. We are hoping to give Brewski a loving home where he can run and get all the attention he needsHe does pull on a leash but we use a certain collar the obedience class he was in suggested and he does really well. He is high maintenance , like a toddler, in a sense that he needs and loves lots of attention. As much as you give , he gives back. He does not like to be kept outside even on nice days unless you are with him, he very much likes to be apart of every aspect of family life. He does get excited initially and a little skittish around other dogs at first but he does calm down once he gets use to things. His worst behavior is that he barks at everything on the running path, ( he thinks he is a guard dog), and he is high maintenance and I can not tend to him and my toddler at the same time. Other than that he really is a great dog. I run 1.5 miles with him every morning is his only exercise routine for right now. Oh and he did graduate from obedience training so he can stay, follows you even with out leash, listens to commands very well. For more information on Brewski please email santana.alcock@gmail.com
Adopted! Meet Kailey. Kailey is a female, black, flat-coated retriever in immediate danger at the Clovis Animal Shelter. This adorable girl is hoping a new family comes for her soon as this shelter fills up so quickly. She’d love nothing more than her own back yard to run around in with a family that loves her. Please call the shelter at 575) 769-7893 and and ask about animal id# 36196, cage 29.
Adopted! The good folks at Animal Humane asked us to post Fred and Ginger because they are a bonded pair looking for a forever home, together.
Ginger is a female Lab-Shepherd mix, about 2 years old. She has a sweet personality and loves attention and affection. She is very easy to handle and walks pleasantly on leash. She is fairly low-key, but loves to play with Fred, enjoys chasing balls and can rally up for fun when you’re ready. Ginger and Fred really complement each other’s personality and feel most comfortable when each is around.
Fred is a male Pug mix who is 6 years old going on 2; good energy level. He likes to run after the ball, take walks to sniff everything and to play with his best doggy girlfriend, Ginger. He really wants to be a lap dog and get as much attention as possible. He is expressive, warm-hearted little guy. He came to Animal Humane with Ginger, a docile big girl who he snuggles with every night. They play great together, walk together and are an adorable couple.
To really appreciate how sweet they are and get to know them, spend some one-on-one time with them outside of the shelter kennel. To meet Fred and Ginger please visit Animal Humane in Albuquerque, or call 505/255-5523.
Adopted! These beautiful puppies were dumped at only 5 weeks old. Luckily they were found and taken to the Rio Rancho animal control, dehydrated but otherwise ok. They are Labrador retriever mixes and there are 2 left from the original 6, the chocolate and the tan. They are adorable and playful. If you’d like to meet one of these beautiful puppies, please call the shelter at 505- 891-5075 and ask about animal id# C11-000359 through C11-000364.
Adopted: Bailey is a Chocolate Lab from a breeder in Georgia. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, and will be 4 in July. Bailey has lived her entire life with a French Bulldog, a Sighthound, and an adoring human. Unfortunately, this human has experienced drastic changes in her life including life-threatening medical diagnoses and is crushed by the thought of re-homing her dogs. Bailey has always lived in a warm, safe, loving environment. Bailey’s mom is having medical problems and unfortunately, that leaves sweet Bailey looking for a new home. She’s lived with two other dogs and is good with dogs in general. The owner tried to arrange an adoption that failed ’cause she was completely bullied by the female that was already there. She’s definitely good on a leash and has enjoyed regular walks. She’s housetrained. She particularly loves balls but also enjoys other toys. She sooooo loves giving and receiving affection and snuggling up with her human. For more information please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Chevy came to us from a kind hearted Bernalillo County Animal Control Officer. Chevy is only a year and a half old, a beautiful honey colored lab mix who we hold very dear to our hearts. He came in very shy and has blossomed into such a wonderful boy. He runs to the front of the kennel and gives me a big kiss every time I go to walk him. He walks well on a leash, his coat is shiny and is just a very sweet boy looking for a special home. He does great with other dogs! If you are interested in giving Chevy his forever home please call 505/362-0331.
Chevy is probably the perfect dog for anyone who has dogs, or doesn’t, has cats or doesn’t, has kids or doesn’t. He likes to ride in a car or truck, likes to go to Petsmart to pick out bones and meet people, everyone comments about how beautiful he is. He loves parks and likes to meet all kinds of people and their pets. Does not have a bone in his body that is mean, loves to explore and widen his horizon. Chevy may not be a lap dog, but will lay at your feet content just to be loved and have a home of his own. Chevy has now graduated from Camp Bow Wow as their number one foster dog.
Chevy is currently in foster in Albuquerque’s best place for pups … Camp Bow Wow … view his info at http://www.campbowwow.com/us/nm/albuquerque/FosterDogs/tabid/2689/Default.aspx
ADOPTED!! Beau needs help … he’s scared at the shelter, he barks and that means he’s going to be first in line to be put to sleep … please help us to find a foster and home for him? He looks like a purebred lab from a local breeder here in Albuquerque. He is currently in a very dangerous situation at the Clovis Animal Shelter. We see anxiety all the time in the labs in the shelters, and the labs that we bring in to our program. they are highly intelligent dogs who do not do well in kennel type environments. We desperately need someone willing to step up and foster him, with our help, and to bring him to Albuquerque, and to safety. For more information on Beau you can contact Dion at 575/769-7893. To help us get him to Albuquerque, please call Colleen at 505/362-0331.
ADOPTED! Rosie is looking for a new home … her folks are moving and they are trying to do the right thing and find a great place for their girl. From her mom … “We received Rosie in September/October 2010 and she was around 6 months old. She had been with a gentleman that was on advance stages of Alzheimer’s whose older lab has to be put down due to age. His friends thought they were doing him a favor by getting him a puppy but, unfortunately he was not able to take care of her. Rosie does have all of her shots and is spayed. She is pure white (along with a little mud…), she loves to play in the water and mud holes… She loves to fetch and can almost catch a frizbee and she will actually bring it back to you so you can throw it again. She really is a very good dog but, she does need some training. She is all puppy and with me out of town all the time and my husbands arthritis it is hard to have the time needed to get her where I know she can be. She has a VERY sweet disposition and will make someone a very good friend.” For more information on Rosie please call 505/362-0331
Adoption Pending Meet Marley. Marley is an adorable, 2 year old, purebred yellow lab with papers. Her family is having to move overseas and unfortunately cannot take Marley with them. We want to offer a big thank you to her mom for surrendering her to us, and giving Susie Q a chance to find her forever home, a loving, warm, family home where she can be inside, instead of outside looking in through the windows. Susie Q is a quick learner, very eager to please and LOVES her toys. She’ll pick up housetraining in no time flat. She always tries to please. Susie Q is already spayed and up to date on her shots. She’ll need a consistent person to help her channel her 8 month old exuberance. For more information on this beautiful pup please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! Lucy is a pretty black lab mix girl currently in immediate danger in the Clovis Shelter. For more information on giving sweet Lucy a chance at a loving home please call (575) 769-7893 and ask about the lab girl in cage #12
Adopted Cody is a beautiful 10 month old yellow lab who just arrived from Utah where he was out of time. He is a great boy. He is very good on a leash, rides well in the car, and gets along well with other dogs. He knows hows to sit and is learning lots of other tricks. He is very friendly : ) For more information on Cody please call 505/362-0331.
Cody is in foster now and his new mom has this to say:
Cody is doing great. No more marking in the house since the first night (he was neutered yesterday so that problem is not obsolete).. He is FULLY potty trained. He is also kennel trained, a little hesitancy to go to bed (like any teenager) and a few whines in protest but thats it. He plays very nicely with this black lab and chihuahua friends. He LOVES to chew on bones, but has stayed away from anything belonging to humans. He likes to eye the cats and tries to chase but he is learning this is a “no, no”. He is great when riding the car and tries to follow everyone out to see if its his turn to go. He eats his food nicely and lets me take any food or bones away from him without a fuss. He likes to think that a quick game of chase before he is supposed to follow directions is a great time so we are working on following directions (typical puppy behavior). He is a joy to have in the house
ADOPTED! Meet Cassidy! Cassidy is a 6 month old yellow Labrador Retriever. He was abandoned by his owner and was found in the streets, extremely thin and malnourished. He came from the Shelter where he was running out of time. Cassidy adores humans and is looking for a family with an active lifestyle. He gets along great with other dogs, cats and children. He is very smart and sweet, very playful – just a real sweetheart. For more Information please contact Martina at Dita280@hotmail.com
Adopted! Remie is an 8-11 month old female chocolate lab puppy. She is very friendly, playful but calm and not a “typical” in-your-face lab pup! This girl is a thinker! ADOPTED Echo is a 18 month black lab female girl who was just released from her chain in Northern New Mexico where her former owner willingly surrendered her to sister rescue Dogs Deserve Better. Her former owner says she is a good girl and very willing to learn. For more information on Echo please call 505/362-0331. She’s currently in boarding in Albuquerque and is looking for a loving, warm, foster home! 1/22/11 Update from Echo’s foster mom … “I think I’ve probably said this about all my fosters, but I really wish I could keep Echo. She is such an amazingly good dog, I have no idea why someone wouldn’t want her. She is just so sweet and gentle and CALM! I’ve had no issues with chewing, digging, accidents, absolutely nothing. She is good with my other dogs and wonderful with my 4 year old. At first she was very scared and shy, but now she is happy to see us when we come home and she’ll play fetch with some encouragement. Instead of getting into trouble, she just lays at the end of my bed if she can’t find something to amuse her. She is clearly very intelligent, she would be easy to train. Echo is just a wonderful dog, she will make someone very happy.”
Brandy
ADOPTED! 2/4/11 update on Brandy from her foster mom … I wanted to let you know that Brandy is doing well. She is a sweetheart and a great dog. She has a very mild manor and gets along well with boy dogs. I have been taking her with me to social events so she can get acclimated to lots of different scenarios and people. Brandy did very well at the Super Bowl party. She stayed away from the food on the table and did not beg! She is better trained then my two. She seems to do very well around large groups of people and was sound asleep on the floor during the game. She was not startled by loud noise or children. She is learning quickly not to jump on people but sometimes gets too excited, this is still a work in progress. She does well on the leash but still needs to be worked with on a regular basis which I am trying to do more consistently. I did take her running with me yesterday and she makes a great running partner. She has taken a liking to Reagan’s (my dog) stuffed animals and generally has one in her mouth at all times. I really think she is a great dog and I am not seeing any signs of trauma, mental or physical. She has a loving demeanor and think she will make a great family dog for someone with or without children. In the morning she will come up on the bed for a quick scratch behind the ear but then goes about her way.”
Brandy smiling!

Bella does great with other dogs, cats, and children. If you are interested in adopting Bella, please call 505-362-0331.

Pretty Coco posing for the camera!
Meet Rex & Coco, a bonded pair of beautiful chocolate Labs coming to us from a shelter in TX where their time ran out. Their beloved owner passed away and they ended up at the shelter as a result. At 8 years old and needing to be adopted together their options became few so Luvin’ Labs stepped in to save them. They’ll be in Albuquerque next week in foster here until we find the perfect new family that will take them together. Rex is neutered and Coco is spayed. They are sweethearts and even come with their vet records! This is a heartbreaker story and this loved pair deserves a new loving home to overcome their own loss! Let’s find these lovelies a beautiful family to enjoy life with. Please phone to meet Rex & Coco. 505/362-0331.
1/9/11 Update from their foster dad … “All is well with the two pups. We walked to the dog park this morning and they did well with other dogs and enjoyed the exercise. They are loving dogs, I haven’t heard them bark yet. They love to eat like most Labs and follow me around like puppies (especially Rex). They love to be petted and put their chin in my lap while watching football games. I put up my portable fence around the patio and they came through the dog door several times looking for treats.”
1/15/11 At age 9, Coco and Rex still enjoy mixing it up and running with younger dogs at the dog park. With tails wagging and a welcome smile, they enthusiastically greet all canines and humans. After 1 1/2 hours of walking and running, they look forward to returning home and lounging while consuming a delicious dog treat. This pair is brother and sister resulting in a special relationship or bond that is not observed in unrelated canines. Coco is more secure knowing her big brother Rex is still watching out for her welfare. Both enjoy being close and helping their human companions with all ongoing work activities around the house. They will be a positive addition to any family who enjoys 2 typical mature loving Labradors.
Rex playing at the dog park!

Adopted! Codee needs a foster to help him celebrate being liberated from his chain. His former family is dreaming of a wonderful home for their sweet boy, who was relegated to a chain in the yard after being a house puppy for many months due to family problems. He is around a year old. We are grateful to them for releasing Codee off of his chain, and helping us to get him to Albuquerque. He is up to date on his shots, good with his family, and was housetrained. For more information on Codee please call 505/362-0331 Update from Codee’s foster mom … “He’s adjusting great. Seems to have a very happy disposition. His tail is wagging all of the time. He gets along very well with other dogs and LOVES to play chase (especially in the snow) He has a lot of energy, but is able to lie still and is quite good in the house. He does have a pretty keen interest in playing chase with the cat as well, but she won’t hear of it, and is putting him in his place. He is getting better about listening to her and us. He has great self esteem. He is very friendly with others, doesn’t seem to have many fears. He has ridden in the car and did pretty well. He’s not a jumper (I was worried about that the first day) Not a digger so far. And so far not a chewer except for operations to de-squeak the dog toys. He’s a busy boy. We’ve begun teaching him some basic commands and how to walk on the leash. He learns pretty quickly, has already mastered the doggie door, sleeps well in a crate (without any crying, I might add). I think he’ll make a marvelous pet for just about anyone. He seems attracted to kids, but we haven’t really had any experiences with any up close yet.”

Adopted! Hello there! I am Travis, a cute young male Lab pup just hoping you’ll love me. I’m a good boy who looks pure high quality lab, and who loves to play with other pups. from my foster mom … “Travis is doing really good, he is such a sweet little boy. He is very loving, he loves to be pet or played with. He is definitely in that rambuncious puppy stage where he wants to play with everything, even if its not necessarily a toy. We are working on potty training and he is doing really well. He now goes to the door when he has to go outside. We are also working on manners and sit. He is extremely intelligent, I’m sure it won’t take him long to get everything down. Travis is great with kids and other animals, he’s shown no aggression. He is a little shy when he thinks he’s in trouble. Overall, he is a wonderful little guy. Well, not little, he’s going to be pretty large I think!” For more information on Travis please call 505/362-0331.
ADOPTED!!! Sometimes in life you’re meant to see more than your seeing … Wonderful Susie was driving along the road in Edgewood when she saw a black bundle on the side of the road. She stopped to see what it was … and it turned out to be beautiful Ray, tired, hypothermic, tail wagging, and blind. Ray was dumped or abandoned on the side of the road, and taken in by the wonderful folks of Vista Larga Animal Clinic where has been vetted and cared for, and of course, loved on. Ray is a wonderful boy, good with other dogs, great with people, and all around a very sweet boy. He is totally blind in one eye, and the other eye at the most he sees a bit of shadows to the side. The vet thinks he’s about 5 years old. We are looking for someone to open up their home and their hearts, and give Ray a safe place to lie his head and keep his heart warm. Ray currently is in need of a loving forever home. He is in foster with one of Luvin’ Labs own fabulous adopters! She says: Ray is finally here and adorable! Ironically you would htink him and my dog are brother and sister. They are the same age and about the same mix of breed. He has already made himself at home and is hanging out on the couch! For more information on Ray please call 505/362-0331 we’d love to have you meet him, and Ray … well Ray will show you that even tho his eyes don’t see they sure can still give you lots of love.
Chance aka Ray Charles, abandoned in Edgewood and Marley, rescued from the Valencia shelter, both now forever home!
Adopted! Am I cute or what?? My name is Cedar and I really need a home. I was SAVED from the shelter in Clovis, YEA! I am a young male yellow lab (really I am), and am doing wonderful in foster. My foster mom says I am just a very sweet good boy. I am housetrained, great with other dogs, and just waiting for a family to share my love and life with. I walk well on a leash, love to talk, and am a “leaner” … translation means I love to be leaning on my people! For more information on me please call 505/362-0331. I’m here to celebrate the New Year with you!!! Update from Cedar’s foster mom … “Cedar and Koki (foster sister) are in love. He is such a smiley dog and definitely leans a lot. Very much a cuddler, head in lap kind of pup. He responds quickly to reprimands and comes easily. He talks a lot as well. We’ve had some great conversations this evening. Great with cats and very respectful of Ellie (my older dog) He’d be great for a family!”
Can you help me and my family out?
Adopted! Hi! I am Spanky, and I am currently in foster with Luvin Labs. I really miss my wonderful owners who made the tough decision to place me in foster after they lost their home and had nowhere to keep me safe. I am doing really well in my foster home and I get along great with the people, the labs, and even the cats! I also am doing fine with the neighboring horses, goats, and dogs. I am a young 9 year old labbie boy and I really am pretty self sufficient. I love people and you can tell this because my tail is always wagging! I am extremly mellow and I am great indoors and out- I do have really good manners and I have no interest in chewing things or peeing/pooping where I shouldn’t. I am crate trained – but I would rather be with you. Even though I am still adjusting to a new place, I really am a pretty happy boy. I just want everybody around me to be happy too! I do like to play with ropes and toys and I am really enjoying having other dogs around. I have a great demeanor and I have an extra big smile for anyone who shows me kindness or pets me or has a kind word for me. When I am really happy and content, I will roll over and let you scratch my belly – how cool is that! I truly am a wonderful boy and I really want to be your friend. Want to be my friend and come over and play? Please call 505/362-0331 if you would like to meet Spanky.
Lizzie and Sadie need a loving home and need to stay together. Both were rescued at separate times but severe allergies force the owner to part with these “best buddies”. Lizzie is 4 and has been a mom several times when she was at a lab kennel in Los Lunas. Sadie is 4 years old and came from the Animal Humane Society in Albuquerque. Both are housetrained and good on a leash. Both have been around our grandchildren and all is well. Lizzie likes to cuddle and Sadie is learning to appreciate ear rubs. Both dogs will lay down wherever I am. Neither have been around cats as far as I know. They like to play together and sometimes it looks ruff but it’s just play. Both are willing to stay in their crates (next to each other) when it is cold outside and we are out of the house. Lizzie came to us a little heave and we are trying to lean her down. Sadie is trim and still has much pup in her. For more information on adopting Lizzie and Sadie please call Josh at 505-263-4843
Retained by owner! Meet Valentino, a fabulous almost one year old who’s owners would like to find him a new, better home where he has more exercise than they are able to provide. Valentino knows the following commands: sit, stay, come, leave it; go sit down, go lay down (even if he chooses to do one or the other); he knows when you’re leaving the house and may beat you to the door unless you tell him to stay and thinks he should go too; will go everywhere you go for walks and in the car. Has a really sweet personality. Loves praise. May blink his eyes at you to try to get more attention. Will jump on you unless you make him stop and say “No jump”; will climb up on whatever you’re sitting on to be close to you; sometimes he may lie still with his head in your lap. He is much better behaved when he is exercised on a regular basis. Loves to play in the snow and will eat it. I use the “gentle leader” on him when we go for walks; he’s not too happy with it but if I don’t he will drag everywhere he wants to go. He acts like he’s going to hyperventilate then he forgets once he really gets into his walk. He is housetrained and loves water …he had a kiddie pool this past summer and thoroughly enjoyed splashing all the water out of it so I put it under a tree so the water was not wasted. At first he thought it was a giant water dish so he tried to drink all the water! He seems to be ok around the kids he’s been around and loves to play with other dogs. Valentino loves to ride in the car, loves to be loved; loves to go for long walks and gets an attitude if it’s too short (10 min); if you leave his crate open he will go in/out of it. Even if you just push it together, if he wants to go in he will open it and go in, same applies for doors. For more information on this sweet young energetic boy please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! Hey my name is Mojo. I’m a 10 month old black lab. My foster care home says I maybe a mix, but I’m not mixed up. I’m all lab. I love to play ball. Be the ball is my motto. I walk on a leash like a gentleman. I know to come when I’m called. I sit when required , and stay as long as required or 5 minutes which ever come first.I get along with other dogs, I like to be with people. I’m cuddle and affectionate. I’m not sure what house trained means, but I know how to use a dog door. I have had no accidents at my foster home. I do like to get on the bed or a soft chair and I have been known to counter surf when no one is looking. I’m crate trained. Oh yea I’m still a puppy and ever now and then I just have to chase the leaves blowing in the backyard or grab a slipper if I think I can get away with it. I’m told I had a rotten past, but that’s all in the past. Now I’m looking for a forever home that needs a forever companion. For more information on Mojo please call 505/362-0331
Adopted!! Beautiful Romeo is now with Luvin’ Labs in boarding. This big lover boy (no pun intended) is a great lab just looking for a good home. He is 5 years old, walks well on a leash, and is doing ok in boarding although he’d sure love a foster family and a yard of his own. For more information on Romeo please call 505/362-0331. Update from Romeo’s foster dad … “Romeo is the dog everyone wants when they think of a good house dog. He came into my house and was right at home. He found the dog door in less than a minute. He has never had an accident in the house. He came to me with another foster Sampson a 4-6 month old very shy puppy. He took the puppy under his wing and is really helping the young pup find some confidence. He is a mediator for the new pack with my dog,Sampson and himself. If the play gets a little rough with the pup and my dog. He steps in and calms things down. Romeo has no dog, food or people aggressions. I can tell he has been in a family situation before. He walks on a leash like a master. he knows all his basic obedience sit, here, stay. If you are looking for a lab that is calm, does not chew, house broken, loves other dogs and loves to be with his owner. Romeo oh Romeo is the dog for you.”
Adopted! Myka was listed since September in the City Shelter, where she began to decline, and not eat. We were fortunate enough to find a wonderful foster for her. From Myka’s foster mom … “Myka is doing GREAT! She’s good with my dogs, curious, wants to play but mine are a little old. She’s a joy to have around. She walks well on a leash, is very affectionate, and well behaved. She knows how to site, shake, and then shake with the other paw. She is great at following commands!” For more information on beautiful Myka please phone 505/362-0331.

Adopted! Update from his foster mom for now … “Coby is doing well is foster. He is so sweet and cuddly. Very mellow right now (probably because of pain and a little depression still) but I’m starting to see more and more tail wagging. When I took him outside for a potty break in the front he really wanted to go for a walk. Tail waggin and sniffing and hopping along. We didn’t go far as he was getting tired, but I could tell he really like the freedom!”
Coby was a stray found with an injured front leg. He looks like he was loved in his life, not starved, and probably lost his beloved owner along the way for some unknown reason. A sad turn for such a wonderful boy! He is beautiful and sweet. Coby was shot with a shotgun a while ago, maybe while looking for his owner, not fast enough to dodge a stinging shotgun. He still has pieces of shot in his body that need to be removed, for his safety, and the most dramatic injury is that his humerus has also been blown apart, shattered, and his front leg has atrophied from this trauma.
After obtaining the best evaluations possible and with the offer of a Luvin’ Labs benefactor to pay for reconstructive surgery for Coby to give him a functional leg, if possible, the decision had to be made to amputate the damaged leg, which could not be saved due to the extent of the trauma. Coby is a trooper and is resting comfortably now following his extensive surgery. Our hearts go out to this victim of human behavior. We need to make his life right now after what he has endured from humans. This little pup now needs the love and attention that the caring Lab lovers that are committed to our rescue can offer. We need your help to pay for this amputation that Coby has sustained and we are seeking his loving forever home so that he can recover in peace and quiet and begin his new life on three legs. Can you help this lovely boy out?
Please consider whatever donation you can to help pay for Coby’s amputation and/or consider adopting this lovely boy to give him the love and attention he deserves. Please phone us if you would consider adopting Coby! 505/362-0331.

Reclaimed by his heartbroken owners!! YEA Chaco!

Chaco was found only because our vet scanned for a microchip, and we found one … MICROCHIP your pups! It can be a lifeline, and the only way you can save your pet!
ADOPTED! Boomer appeared at our home in Edgewood just before Christmas. He was sleeping by our gate when I found him. I let him in the yard and he wanted to stay. We tried ads in the Telegraph and telling all our friends plus posting fliers at feed stores. No Luck. We already own two Aussies (male and female) and a male Great Pyrenese cross. They all get along super. We also own a cat that at first Boomer would try to chase however the cat took care of the problem right away. Now he leaves her alone. We have since moved to our farm in Estancia with Boomer of couse. There is a new barn cat there that he had to chase, we think we have that problem fixed. So if he is not schooled to not chase a paticular cat then he will do it. Boomer is neutered, and we think he is an older dog maybe around 10. He is big and most likely weighs about 65 to 70 lbs. He is house broken and loves to sleep on the couch if someone would let him. And he does sleep though the night, no getting up at 2am to let him out, in fact it takes alot to get him out of bed in the mornings. He sits, shakes hands and generally loves people. I have walked him on a leash and he does very well. He will make someone (without horses) a wonderful pet and I do wish I could keep him. It will be hard to let him go. For more information on Boomer please call Colleen at 505-710-2535.

Mojo Adopted is a big, friendly, happy yellow lab. From Mojo’s foster family … “He gets along great with our 3 other dogs; he gives our older Shepherd his space, and loves to romp with our other 2 labs. He is fantastic with our children as well. He lets them climb all over him with no problems. He is playful and very affectionate with everyone. He does very well on leash, but as a big lab at 85lbs., is very strong. He adjusted very quickly in our house, and loves people. He’s around 2 to 3 years old, and is house trained: we do not crate him when we leave and have had no problems. Mojo would make a fantastic pet for just about anyone; he is truly just a fantastic, fun dog.” For more information on Mojo please call 505/362-0331.
ADOPTED!! My name is Shadow … I’m just a baby and don’t quite understand why I’m here. I’m a good boy, but my family had to move, and I guess even tho they spent all this time packing up the house and blankets and furniture, and even my toys, that I didn’t get to go with them. They left me at the animal shelter, a 7 month old black puppy with not a lot of chance of being adopted because the shelters are full of 7 month old black puppies. I’m a little scared here, will you come help me? I promise to be a good boy, and to only act like a puppy sometimes. The rest of the time the lab in my blood will show me to be the best dog ever! Please call about me? My name is Shadow, and I want to go home …. Shadow is at Rio Rancho Animal Control, please call about him at 505-891-5075. My animal id isC11-000151
ADOPTED! Hi! My name is Valentine and folks tell me I look like a purebred lab. I’m at the Rio Rancho Animal Control where they had to have me doctored up because my collar was so tight that it was embedded into my neck. I had a family that didn’t care much about me, it’s ok, because I still love to love, and still want to show everyone what a good, happy girl that I am. My neck is healing up wonderfully and now I’m just here, waiting for my forever home. I have the most beautiful white fur ever : ) And, despite my really bad beginnings, I really do love people. I hope you’ll come visit me, and take me home so I can be a forever part of your family. For more information on me, please call 505-891-5075 and ask about me, animal id C11-000096

She came to us from the Valencia counter shelter where she was out of time. staff says she is incredibly sweet and has a great personality. At only 10 months she has already had puppies even though her puppies could not be located. How about taking a look at beautiful Scarlette’s video of her chasing a butterfly below!! ADOPTED!! My name is Opie, I had a really good family and was so happy but then my family had to “find me a new home”. They thought they had left me with good people, but they didn’t. The new people were very mean to me, and didn’t feed me, and hurt me. Rio Rancho Police took me into protective custody and now I am at the Rio Rancho Animal Control where the nice folks there are working with me and helping me to be happy again. I’m 4 years old, my first family said I was the best dog ever! I’m looking for a forever home, with good people, and hopefully a nice warm bed and never empty food bowl. A nice lady that visits me here with the Luvin’ Labs group says that I am very sweet, and that I love to cuddle … I give her lots of kisses when she visits, and now I’m sitting at the front of my cage, curious about what is going on, instead of cowering in the back. If you’d like to meet me you can find me at the Rio Rancho Animal Control. I’d love to find my forever home, or even a family to love and foster me until I’m forever home. For more information on me, Opie, please call Rio Rancho Animal Control at 505-891-5075, my animal number C11-000077.
Adopted! Nilla is in a Luvin’ Labs foster home in Albuquerque and is doing just wonderful. She is about 1 1/2 years old and a pretty cream color. Nilla came from Valencia Shelter where her family dumped her because they didn’t have enough time for her. She is good with other dogs, sweet with kiddos, and loves pets and attention. She is doing well in foster and her foster mom has this to say:Just like her name, Nilla is very sweet and a beautiful creamy color. She’s wonderful with my 6-year old son, who climbs all over her, pulls her lips and tugs on her ears. She just lays there and actually enjoys it! I have 2 cats, and Nilla knows her place with both of them (they’re the boss). She sleeps next to my bed at night like a champ. I’ve left her in my room for a couple of hours to run errands, and she did great and was not stressed out. Nilla rides well in my SUV, although still needs some persuasion jumping into it. She’s not a huge chewer and does not go after everything, but loves the 2 new bones I bought her. Nilla walks well on a leash; no extreme tugging or pulling my arm off. She’s been exposed to other dogs and does well with tail wagging. She knows basic commands like sit, but she has the capacity to learn so much more. Nilla seems very well grounded so far, and would only blossom from additional love and training.
For more information on sweet Nilla please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! Hello, I am Zena’s foster mom and I would like to let you know how Zena is doing… This black beauty is so sweet and loving.. She has a beautiful black coat and baby brown eyes that makes you melt when she looks at you… Zena is totally house trained… She loves other dogs as she plays very well with Jasper (foster brother), she will lay next to him until he’s done playing with the bone or rope or she’ll sneak in so they can start playing tug a war, she also tries to snuggle with him to take it away the bone or rope.. She will do very well if she has a friend to play with at her new home… She has her funny personality… When it comes time for Zena to eat she is doing very well at eating like a lady… You ask her to sit and wait for her food, than slowing put it in front of her and she will wait now until you put it on the floor for her to eat… Zena loves to be an inside and outside dog but prefers to sleep inside with you… She does well if you leave her inside while you are gone at work or just need to run to the store… I have had Zena now almost a month or a little over and she is really a truly wonderful girl… She is just dying to become part of your family and awaiting her new forever home. For more information on Zena please call 505/362-0331
Adopted! Update from Emmett’s foster mama … “Emmett is a wonderfully sweet totally black calm young Labbie boy. He is a just wonderful guy: non Alpha, and very mellow, not food aggressive, and very friendly with other dogs. He loves to run and play and is very fast with his long legs. He loves toys, loves to play tug, and enjoys a good game of fetch. Most of all he loves to be with his people. He really wants a family of his own! He knows how to sit, how to shake, knows down and leave it, and loves to walk by your side. He is house trained and behaves very well in the house. He tail is always wagging and he is such happy boy to be in a home environment and with people who care about him. He is crate trained, but would rather be with you. He knows his place in the pack and takes counsel well from older labs. He is just really a treat to have around! He is still adjusting to a new place, but is doing amazingly well in a really short time.”
Emmett is a 1-2 year old black lab male we just received yesterday from the Las Vegas Shelter. He is a good boy, knows how to sit and shake, and walks on a leash like a pro. He was taken in to the shelter as a stray, but this boy was loved and cared for at some point. He loves to lean on his people and prefers to be with folks than by himself. Emmett is a big boy, but he is quite skinny now and needs to put on some weight. He rides in the car wonderful and is currently doing great in his foster home with his foster siblings. He does great with both male and female dogs. He LOVES toys, just like any good lab. For more information on sweet Emmett please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted! My name is Boston and I am a big, beautiful boy. I came to Albuquerque all the way from El Paso where some friends of mine took me in when my family could no longer keep me. I’m 3 years old and a big love bug. I walk well on a leash, do not dig, and don’t jump the gates. I am good with kids (mom said wonderful), and other dogs. I even like cats! My former dad did not like me in the house, where my mom wanted me to be all the time, so sadly I found myself almost homeless. For more information on me (that’s Boston) please call 505/362-0331.

ADOPTED! “The rescue named me Bali but they don’t really know my name. A wonderful lady found me and brought me home instead of leaving me wandering on the streets of Albuquerque. I am good with other dogs and cats. I can use the doggie door- and I am very housetrained.” From his foster mom … ”He comes up to me on my side and press his body against me. He tried to initiate play with my little 20 lb dog this am. He is getting happier and wagging is tail. I think he has been anxious and depressed. He was weak when I picked him up but he is gaining in strength. Bali is very loving and loyal- he follows me around the house. Can you tell I’m starting to love him? :)” For more information on giving Bali a place to wait hoping to find his forever family, or to help him by being his forever family, please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! Hi I’m Liberty. I was named in honor of being released from my chain I’d been on since I was a pup. My family calls me Libby and I’m a spayed almost two year old very sweet Chocolate Lab that is fully house trained. I’m full of energy and like most younger labs could use some reminders on when I need to mind my manners. I love to cuddle and really like being a Lap Lab when you let me! I love kids but don’t know my own size so I would be better with a little bit older kids who want to run and play. I really enjoy playing with my foster brother and sisters and would miss having someone around all the time so I would really like it if you have another dog(s) to play with that likes to play as much as I do. For more information on our beautiful Liberty please call 505/362-0331.

Sundance Adopted! is a 2 year old yellow lab just saved from the Valencia County Shelter. He sure looks like a purebred from a local breeder who has just absolutely the sweetest labs out there.
A new picture of Sundance (now known as Danner).
Danner is doing really well. Craig actually just taught him how to bring his food bowl to us at dinner time (it is so cute).
Adopted! Sassy Princess lives on base with her family where recently they were transferred from Alaska. They no longer have a yard for Sassy to play in, and this poor girl is spending a lot of her life in her crate. Sassy Princess is a 1 1/2 year old black lab, already spayed, chipped and up to date on her shots. She is great with children and has always been around them. She has not been around a lot of other dogs, but gets very excited when she see’s them at the park. She needs a bit of work on a leash (like most year old labs). She is housetrained, and absolutely loves to cuddle on the couch. Sassy is a great girl who her family is sad to lose, but they really want her to have a yard to play in and a family with more time to be with her. For more information on adopting Sassy please call 505/362-0331.
Drifter Adopted! is currently in foster in Albuquerque~ Here’s what his current foster family has to say about this great boy … “Drifter has a thick black coat, very shiny, so I think he is in pretty good health. He has a white star pattern on his chest. He is not the largest lab I have seen but he looks large because he is very muscular. I am 5’1” and his back comes up around my hips. He has NOT been neutered. I believe he is an older dog maybe 4 or 5 years old but I am not sure. His teeth have some tarter on them but they are not that bad. With him being so calm makes me think that he has a little age on him and Terry said she thought he was an older dog. He has been potty trained and has had no accidents since we got him. We were gone 5 or 6 hours the other day and we kept him inside. When we got home we let both dogs out and Drifter went immediately to the corner of the yard he always poops in and relieved himself. Lol He will potty almost in the same spot every time. I have never seen that in a dog before. He is very calm in the house which makes me think he has been an inside/outside dog before. He has not chewed or torn up anything since we have fostered him. He does like to go outside and sit on mom’s patio and watch the other dogs. He has only jumped the fence once and that was when a stray dog came up to the fence and he got so excited. So away he went. Mom drove down the street and he was headed back toward her house. Mom called him and he jumped in mom’s car with no hesitation. He has not jumped the fence since that time. We have to exercise him by throwing his ball for an hour morning and evening to keep him contented because we are afraid that he will jump the fence again. He can be very energetic one minute and then when mom calls him inside he will tone it down. Mom has dogs next to her on both sides of her fence and Drifter will try to get them to run the fence line with him. He wants so badly to play with them because he will run up to the border collie that’s in the next yard and bark and whine. I am almost sure he has lived with more than one dog and I believe he has lived with small and large dogs both because he is so gentle with mom’s small terrier. He was also gentle with the small stray cat that was hanging out at mom’s house. I brought my friends children over to mom’s when I took pictures of him and they were all over him. They kissed his face and hugged him and the one boy was very small and hung on Drifter. I have seen NO AGRESSION at all with the kids, mom’s small terrier, or the stray cat. I have taken his food away when he was eating and he just lifted his head and let me take it. I gave it back to him and he continued eating. I believe he has been around elderly people too because he so gentle with mom and seems to prefer her to me even though he is happy to see me when I come over to exercise him.” For more information on Drifter please call 505/362-0331.
Adopted! My name is Grace and my people left me in the Rio Rancho shelter. I am an old girl but I’ve still lots of love to give and I’d really like a nice warm home with a soft bed to spend the rest of my time … I’m a good girl, a little slow to move, and a little white around my muzzle, but loving I can still do. I am good with kids and house trained. … for more information on me, Grace, please call (505) 362-0331. Thank you to our “good shepherds” who helped us to have a soft place for Grace to land, and for her foster home for opening up their home and heart to her!
Sampson and Delilah Adopted Together!just in to Albuquerque from the Roswell Shelter where they both were going to be put to sleep. They are the sweetest pair of pups we’ve ever met, and truly are a love story. They are both english type labs, smaller in stature and with very mellow personalities. Sampson and Delilah are 3 years old. Sampson is a beautiful creamy yellow, and Delilah is a beautiful white yellow. They obviously were kenneled together and we’d really like to see these two lovebirds go to the same home … they love to stand with their heads across one another’s backs. Both walk great on a leash, know how to sit, and are very polite. Currently they are in boarding in separate kennels and we’d love to get them into foster, or a home as soon as possible. They have not been well cared for, both need some good regular food, and lots of love. For more information on Sampson and Delilah please call 505/362-0331.

Sasha ADOPTED came to us from a sister rescue. She is a 9 month to one year old female black lab who’s doe brown eyes will just melt you. Sasha was saved from her life on a chain, and being beat continually by her cruel owners. Her poor jaw is so out of alignment it hangs down on the right side. One of her canines is very loose. Her jaw cannot be surgically repaired, it has been broken and healed too many times. When she came into the other rescue she was emaciated and scared. She’s put on some weight, and was doing ok at getting over her fears and actually started playing with the vet staff where she was being fostered. She loves tummy rubs, and lying quietly next to you. She is very sweet and gives the sweetest puppy kisses out of her crooked mouth. From Sasha’s foster mama …. “ Sasha is a good girl, a sweet girl, and a pretty girl. She is lots smarter than I realized. She is housetrained, LOVES to play fetch, loves to play!” Please help this very sweet girl who just wants to be held and loved to find a soft place and loving arms. Dalton ADOPTED!! is a 6 month old lab pup who came in with his mama Daisy from Valencia County where they were out of time. From his foster mama … “He bonds quickly. He slept with me last night and I woke up to a head on my shoulder. He follows me and Molly around everywhere. Loves to play. He cracks me up. He does this flopping over thing, whether it’s on his side or his back. We’re working on learning his name and sit. He’s going to get a bath later which should be interesting. He’d be great with a family that has another dog. I think he’d be ok on his own too if his humans spend a lot of time with him. He’s a puppy so if you don’t pay attention he’s into things. He’s very happy. We haven’t had any accidents in the house!” For more information on giving Dalton his second chance please call 505/362-0331. 11/22/10 update from Dalton’s foster mom … “He would do best with a family that has another dog. Housebroken, uses the dog door, walks fairly well on a leash, does ok in the car, loves to play with toys, very eager to please. He’s learning his basic commands and takes treats from your hand like the good boy he is.”

Cocoa ADOPTED is a beautiful 1 1/2 year old chocolate lab/shepherd mix. She originally came to us from El Paso where she waited for months for her forever home. We were so excited when we placed her in what we thought was her perfect forever home. We had wonderful reports, and great rapport with her owner who said she was the most incredible dog ever. Imagine our surprise when Valencia County Animal shelter called us and told her that he had dumped her at the shelter. One of our conditions for adoption is a signed agreement giving Luvin’ Labs first right to help in the event adopted labs ever have to be rehomed. Poor Cocoa. She is currently in a loving foster in Albuquerque. She was loved, and then left, we are going to make darn sure this girl is placed in her forever home this time. She is a wonderful gentle girl, loving, calm, very smart, crate trained and house trained. She knows basic commands and really listens and follows directions well. She loves people and wants to be with her people more than anything! She is not aggressive at all; about food, with cats, or around other dogs. She is even great with puppies! She loves walking on a leash and loves toys. She knows how to heel, is an easy walker, and is accustomed to walking next to a wheelchair. She behaves really well in the house – no chewing or damage when left by herself or with another dog when you are out for the day. She needs at least a 6′ wall as her beautiful gazelle legs easily take her over fences when she’s scared or lonely. Just as in the past, with a companion dog – she does not jump at all. The only known fence that she has jumped has been stucco – not wood or wire. Please can you help us to find a great home for sweet Cocoa? For more information on her please call 505/362-0331.
Hailey Adopted! was out of time at a shelter close to Albuquerque. This beautiful one year old lab was emaciated and nursing her pups when she first arrived at the shelter. She was a wonderful, loving, providing mama to her puppies, despite the fact that she was only skin and bones. As happens, her puppies all found their forever homes, but Hailey was left in the shelter, alone, and waiting. She’s a small lab with lots of labby energy. She is good with kids and needs a bit of work on socializing with other dogs, which she’ll get in foster. She is highly intelligent but needs training and would do great at it. For more information on giving this deserving mama the same chance that she provided her pups, a chance at a loving forever home, please call 505/362-0331.
ADOPTED! Meet our sweet little girl Polly!! Polly is very friendly and super-sweet and waiting for a home of her very own!! Polly is the smallest of the siblings – but works hard to get in on all the action! She does fine in a crate and is doing well with housetraining. Please consider adopting or rescuing Polly and giving her a second chance at a new life with a family that can care for her! For more information on sweet Polly please call 505/362-0331
ADOPTION PENDING Johnson is a very young 6 years old. You can see in his soulful eyes the love & loyalty he has to offer. Johnson is a deserving guy that longs for his very home with a warm bed, big yard & cozy TV nights on the couch. He is very smart, listens well, walks well on the leash & knows how to sit. ADOPTION PENDING – April is truley a VERY special girl! She needs a home that is calm and free of young children, as they make her nervous. She is a very shy dog that will let you in at her own pace, but once you are in…YOU ARE IN!!! I first met April when she was picked up by animal control and taken to a shelter. She was so shy and afraid, it was hard for the kennel workers to connect with her. I spent many months getting to know April, and we have since become the best of friends!! She shines when we are together, because I let her move at her own pace and built a trusting relationship with her. I KNOW she can form this bond with another person if given that chance. It will take a special person to understand April and see past her hesitations, but she will return that kind of patience with a loyalty and love like no other! April is currently in boarding, and I don’t get to see her as much as I would like to…but at least… for more information on April please call Angela at 505/974-4733
ADOPTED from Parker’s foster mom … “Parker is a 1 year-old VERY white lab who has the sweetest and gentlest temperament, and just loves to be petted and loved. We’ve been so lucky to have Parker in our lives for only a couple of months. He came to us at 10 months, and is now close to a year old. This is our first time fostering and we didn’t know what to expect. We wanted the experience of helping an amazing animal, and in turn found the dog that we would fall in love with. That happened very quickly. Parker was subdued and very mellow the first couple of weeks (adapting to his new home I assume). And, then puppy kicked in, as it’s supposed to. He is still very shy when first meeting strangers, but warms up instantly. He does great at the dog park, always standing back and knowing his place as the “new guy”. He’s not food aggressive, and has never growled at people, kids, other dogs or cats (we have two). He does however relentlessly chase the cats out of curiosity, even though he’s been scratched a few times. He always has high hopes to make friends with them. I would recommend finding a home with “dog friendly” cats who will embrace his curiosity. He has yet to like water, but doesn’t mind baths (go figure). He’s even been on our boat at the lake a couple of times and just chills on the bottom of the boat. He rides well on long trips, and sleeps well without his crate in some of the “dog friendly” hotels we’ve stayed. His favortie past-time right now is chasing lizards. However, I’ve never seen him actully catch one! He barks minimally in the back yard, and never whines or scratches at the door. He just waits for someone to let him in. Still learning to play fetch, but is distracted by all of the wonderful things the back yard has to offer. He’s pretty good on a leash, needs some fine-tuning; gets distracted by bikers, people walking by and other dogs. ” Parker has been transitioned 3 times, just an absolute mystery to us. We are now committed to making sure this special little one lands in the perfect forever home. Both his foster mom and our rescue agree that Parker would make an incredible therapy dog. For more information on Parker please call 505/362-0331.
ADOPTED!! from Fergie’s foster mama … ”I met Fergie end of June at an Adoptathon, she was going to be taken back to her shelter and pts, so another rescue offered to take her and I have been keeping an eye on her until now. When I saw that she was not doing well without personal love and attention, I brought her home to foster. Fergie is a beautiful lab mix about 1-1/2 years old. She is quite a bit under weight as she just did’t seem really interested in food, definitely not the lab in her. She very dainty, but loves to run and play. She will sit on command and loves playing with other dogs, in water and snuggling up to you at night. Right now I am working on my computer and she is curled up beside me on the floor. We are working on feeding her whenever we can and she does. Maybe just the love and home life makes her more hungry. She has a beautiful black coat with a few small white markings. She hates having her pictures taken, but we snuck in these gorgeous pics of her. I would recommend her being with another dog as she loves to run and play!” For more information on Fergie please call 505/362-0331.
9/15/10 Update from Fergie’s foster mama … “Fergie is more like 12 months old, boxer/lab mix. How do we know? She has legs like a Gazelle and will not let you make the bed unless you wrestle over the covers with her first. She is so playful all the time, likes to snuggle in bed or beside the bed and wins everyone over with her antics. She loves to go on walks, play with other dogs and kids. A couple weeks ago she was so shy, now she is beautiful, filling out, full of love and wears our 86 pound Great Pyranese out. She is the cutest, perfect, young dog.”
Finnegan is a beautiful young male silver lab who is currently in the Clovis shelter. We are working with our fabulous advocate down there to get him pulled and safe, and then we will be bringing him up to Albuquerque to his forever home. For more information on Finnegan please call 505/362-0331
Baby Adopted! is a beautiful 1 year old yellow lab female who is in foster in Albuquerque. Baby does great in a crate (no accident during the night) and seems to be totally house trained. She is incredibly sweet and just needs to put on a little weight. She gets along wonderfully with my labbie crew and is curious about cats – but does not chase or bother them. She is a people dog and loves to be in the house with her family. She also loves the yard and water – like any bona fide Lab! She is still getting used to Albuquerque – so I will post more information about Baby as times goes on. For more information on Baby please call 505/362-0331. 10/14/10 update from Baby’s foster mom … “Baby is doing really well, we are working on sit and lay down. She sits well, but only for a treat. She is getting a lot of attention and socialization. I take her to my friends daycare sometimes and she is amazing with all the noise and crazy kids running around. She is playing a lot with my golden, they’re getting along really well. She is very sweet and loving, but very well mannered. She likes to play and hang out with you, but she is completely happy to go do her own thing. She isnt hyperactive or bouncing off the walls. She doesn’t dig, chew or jump and barks very rarely. She is a great family dog.”
Shiloh ADOPTED is a beautiful white lab mix in foster in Albuquerque. He is between 4-6 months old. He was an owner surrender from a not so very nice owner and is now doing well in a loving foster home. He is a sweet, calm pup who loves his people, warms up quickly, and enjoys other dogs. He is currently a bit shy and tentative, and when he gets scared, he goes to ground and low crawls, rather than walking. It is sad that this sweet little boy was treated in a manner that prompted this behavior…but we are working on it and as he gets more comfortable – he does it less and less. He really is a wonderful little guy – who probably will be on the smaller side. For more information on sweet Shiloh and to give him the wonderful loving forever home he deserves please call 505/362-0331.
Jamey is a 5 1/2yr old purebred chocolate girl at Espanola Animal shelter. She is not “in danger” but getting her adopted means someone else gets to stick around a bit longer, so it would be wonderful to find her a home quickly. She is sweet and social, and has been great with all the dogs she has met with us, though the owner said she didnt like some other dogs. She was surrendered because they were moving. (They actually gave her away to someone who then left her in our overnight drop box, but with the first owner’s tags on her, so we were able to call her and get the details. They didnt want her back unfortunately). Good with kids, great with cats. Very energetic. Had a surgery of some kind years ago that left a metal plate in her back leg but it does not have any impact on her daily energy level or ability to exercise. Also lost about 3 inches of tail in a puppyhood accident. She is goofy and fun and all things lab. Anyone looking for a perfect Lab like Jamey? If so, please call our shelter at (505) 753 8662.

Logan (4) and Lucas (3) are neutered, and up to date on their shots. They are the sweetest brothers.
We’d love for someone to take both of them as they cuddle together and are inseparable. They’ve had no leash or obedience training so are being put through their exercises while in foster. He is already neutered. For more information on Wilson please call 505/362-0331.
Summer Adopted is very friendly and super-sweet and waiting for a home of her very own!! Summer loves other dogs and when we saw her on the streets she was sharing food with a little cat; she loves people so so much and would also be great with kids! Summer loves the water and really enjoys my doggie pool! She is very well behaved – she sleeps w/o issue in a crate and appears fairly housetrained. She understands the pack hierarchy and does not challenge or confront other dogs. She loves to play with toys and loves to run and play with other dogs. Summer looks like she might be a flat coat retriever, as she has a beautiful coat. She just loves to be with her folks! Please consider adopting or rescuing Summer and giving her a second chance at a new life with a family that can care for her.
Spring ADOPTED! is a 5 month old female yellow lab cross pup. She is a very sweet little girl who is just waiting for her forever home! from Springs foster mom … “Spring is doing well in her foster home and with her foster brother Charlie… She loves having kids around has my house has three running around her, she plays well with my 2 ½ year old son but those two like to fight over who toy is who’s which is pretty cute… She is a small and sweet loving dog… We are working on the potty training and is coming along very well, hasn’t had any accidents in my home.. She does well in a crate while I’m at work and sleeps in it at night, she sounds like thumper when it is time to come out of her crate in the morning, she get so excited that her tail hits the crate and makes a thumping sound… She does well with a leash, doesn’t pull you, doesn’t like to be dragged either and seems a little scared of it but does well when we walk together… Spring is not a runner when you open doors, she does go out but doesn’t run away from you or should I say the chase is on.. If you call her name an tell her to get back inside and hold door open she listens very well an goes back inside…It’s like she doesn’t realize she has no leash on, is outside in the open and all she wants is to be by your side walking with you or wants to play… Spring has her own personality which is shy at first until she gets to know you, seems a little timid but eager to learn and be loved… She is looking forward to going to a new home where she can play, love you and have a forever home… You will have a new best friend for life…” For more information on Spring please call 505/362-0331.

Penny Lane ADOPTED! was found wandering around Broadway and Lead with a chewed off cable attached to her neck. Penny has been with us for a while. She has had to learn how to be an inside dog, to walk on a leash and obedience cues. She is the most loving dog, the perfect running partner and when indoors she is always at my feet. For a dog who didn’t know she was allowed to be inside the house, she has fantastic house manners and does not jump on the furniture or chew things that she isn’t supposed to chew. She is “ok” with the family cat and is best friends with her canine foster siblings! Due to her size and energy level, she will definitely need to go to a home with only older children, a secure backyard and perhaps a “dog saavy cat” For more information on Penny Lane please call 505/362-0331.

He is in Albuquerque in a wonderful foster home. Marcus is almost completely black with just the smallest sliver of white going down the center of his chest. He is a smart boy, and is starting to obey basic commands. He is good with kids and other dogs, walks well on a leash, and rides in a car like a champ. He is a wonderfully sweet boy who loves to play and loves to be with his people – lying next to them or at their feet. He really listens well and wants to follow every instruction. Jag ADOPTED! is a 4 week old chocolate lab pup found lying on the side of the road and surrendered to us today. We don’t know if she was abandoned there, thrown out of a car, or if her mama went missing and she was hurt while looking for her. Volunteers are out looking to see if there’s any other littermates of hers in the area. Her rear left leg is broken in 2 places and will require extensive surgery and being pinned. Jag already has a foster commitment, but we need help in raising funds to get this tiny little girl the surgery she requires to grow up and flourish. Jag was picked up by a well meaning family who immediately took her to a vet. We were contacted to take her to our vet for a second opinion. Jag is currently at Good Shepherd Animal Clinic on pain meds awaiting surgery. To help Dawhoo’s Fund pay for her surgery please click on the link below to go to our donation page. Thank you to each of you for what you do, and how you help us to keep on helping labs.
8/20/10 Jag had her surgery this morning to screw her broken bones together. We are hoping the above picture helps to put her tiny size in perspective. She has weeks and weeks of recovery and rehab and will be fostered by one of the wonderful nurses at Good Shepherd. She will be moved from a nurse’s foster to one of our other loving foster’s for the balance of her rehabilitation. Thanks to all for your thoughts and good wishes. We will keep you updated on Jag’s progress.
9/1/10 Update … Jag’s splint was removed and her leg is not healing very fast. She needs to have a bit more time to recover – another 4-6 weeks. Her bones are healing at a slow rate because she is very young, and she may not have received enough milk proteins from her mom.
9/17/10 Update … Jag is doing great and healing, YEA! Best news ever? Her foster mama/nurse Donna has fallen so in love with this little one that she is going to be her forever mama! YEA Jag. Jag is now called Chile because she starts off sweet and then is a stinker little super smart and fast pup!! We are so thrilled that Jag is healing, and we’re very appreciative of all the folks who helped. We still have medical bills to pay off, and a commitment owed to replenish Animal Krackers .. the fund at Good Shepherd that helped little Jag/LuvinLabs. If you are able to help out we’d be so appreciative!
9/21/10 Update … Jag has been adopted by her foster mom/foster nurse Donna and family! Welcome home Jag … renamed Chile!
Seal and Nestle Adopted are two 10 year old Lab mixes who wandered on to a ranch in the Santa Fe area a number of years ago. Life was good until the economy wasn’t. The ranch was sold and the owner couldn’t take his 4 legged ranch hands with him and their humans are their reason for living. A sad, but too often repeated, story!
Seal, male, 65 pounds, black, (except for the distinguished gray muzzle)
Nestle, female (Seal’s sister) 65 pounds, chocolate.(except for the distinguished gray muzzle). She has arthritis in her left front leg so she, as is Seal, are on Glucosamine.
When ever we spend time with dogs we attempt to develop a list of pros and cons:
PROS
Walk with or without a leash
Do not bark
Do not jump
Do not dig any more than any other dog.
Do not run out of gates unless you say, “come.”
Housebroken
Get along with other dogs, kids, not sure about cats
Ride OK in cars
Will sleep in a dog house
No food aggression
CONS
They make it hard for you to garden on your knees because they will lick your face.
Here’s a picture of the Gray Muzzle Club at the Ranch!
9/3/10 UPDATE FROM FOSTER
BEFUDDLED
“Over the years we did Lab rescue at the LODESTAR Dog Ranch we would occasionally have a great Lab available for adoption which unexplainably seemed invisible to the adopting public.
We are now out of the day- to-day operation of the rescue and have agreed to take on two dogs as foster and here we are again!!
Folks we have had Seal and Nestle here with us since early June. That is much too long for good dogs like this to not have a home.
Yes, they are about 10 years old which means they will only live another 2 to 4 years. Yes, they are seniors so they will be more costly, in money and emotion, than a younger dog.
BUT
How much is it worth to have 2-4 years of looking into eyes so excited to see you come in the door. Two to four years of hearing those tails thumping against what ever is near when you smile. Two to four years of wiggly tummy rubs.
How much is 2-4 years of love worth?
If you are lonely, walking around the house talking to yourself and would like to have a reason to get up in the morning Seal and Nestle may be just what you need, I know you are just what they need.
We at the LODESTAR Dog Ranch can vouch for the goodness of each gray hair on their chinny chin chins.
For more information on Seal and Nestle please give us a call 505/362-0331.
Amber Adopted! is a pretty pup 3-4 months old who was saved from the Clovis Shelter. She is in foster in Albuquerque and is just as sweet as her little labby mix face shows. For more information on Amber please call 505/362-0331.
Jasper RETAINED BY OWNER!! is a wonderful 9 month-1 year old lab dane cross saved from being put to sleep by a wonderful family. Jasper was diagnosed as being heartworm positive. From his foster mom … ” He was at the Westside Animal Shelter since August 2, 2010. I under-estimated the vigilance it requires to keep after a puppy, especially one of his size. He is about 74 pounds at the moment, and I think he’s even a little under-weight. He also just recently got neutered (on Friday). He is a big love-bug, loves to give kisses, and has even tried to climb into my lab to snuggle. He’s one of those guys that doesn’t realize his own strength. He is very loving with my 5 yr old daughter, but she is a little scared of him already. I know there is an adjustment period, and his might take longer since he was at the shelter for so long. I think he needs someone to be with him often to keep after him. Both my husband and I work full time, and are gone from the house from 7:30am to 5:30pm, although I work close enough to come home on my lunch break. He loves to chew! I have a few toys for him, but since we kind of got him at the last minute, he is getting into lots of mischief (including snagging a few things off of the counter) :-) He really is a sweet dog…” For more information on helping Jasper please call 505/362-0331.
Chloe adoptged!! has a long story … short story is she is in incredible danger at the Albuquerque Shelter … from her Dad “Hello Everyone. I want to tell you about our lab/retriever mix Chloe. We first adopted Chloe from the westside animal shelter in Albuquerque in early February 2005. She has been our family pet for almost six years now, along with our other dog Stella who we adopted the same week. Chloe is Apricot in color, and weighs about 38 pounds. She has been a wonderful sister to our other dog Stella. They have never even had a quarrel the entire time they have been together. In addition, we have a son who is almost four years old now who has also grown up with Chloe. Chloe has always been sweet to him and has never even shown a hint of aggression toward him as he has hit her, pulled her tail and ears and tried to ride her. She would endure it, then just calmly walk away each time with no change in emotion. Now, the best I can determine, Chloe experiences separation anxiety to some degree. We have had problems keeping her in our yard since we brought her home. She would only get out when we left the house, never when we were home with her. Initially, I put up a hot wire that went around the top of the fence that seemed to work for quite a while, but after some time she still managed to get out. When she would get out, she never ran away from the house. She would always lay by our front door or often jump back in the yard before we returned. By the way, we have a home owner’s association that prohibits us from raising our fence. It is probably about 4 1/2 feet high and Chloe is athletic. I then put up a radio fence around the perimeter of the yard, that is accompanied by the radio collar that gives warning sounds when the dog gets near the fence and then a shock if the dog doesn’t retreat. This seemed to work very well keeping Chloe in the yard for a couple of years. Then this summer, we were home with her every day going on many walks/runs as well as spending time around the house doing projects. Some weeks, she would go on a walk every day, and at least 5 days / week. I like to run so I would run both of the dogs at the same time around the neighborhood (same route each time 2.5 miles). She loves walks / runs more than anything in the world. She was always happiest on a run. My wife and I are school teachers and we returned to school at the end of this summer and that is when she began to get out again. Our neighbor told us she got out (in spite of her radio collar) one day. The next day I replaced the battery on the collar and tested it. It was working perfectly. On Friday, August 27th, I got a call from my neighbor and he told me Chloe had bitten a bicycle rider, that animal control came, and he thought they had taken her. When I got home, Chloe was still in our yard. The circumstances of the bite were that the cyclist was riding across our property and she felt she was protecting the home. That is my opinion given her track record of never biting in the past. It was a small nip but did manage to break the skin. The officer did come the next morning and told us she had to be quarantined for 10 days to rule out rabies even though her rabies shots were up to date through 2013. I wasn’t comfortable with trying to quarantine her at our house since she had been getting out the last few days. I even bought a crate and we tried to lure her into it and get her used to it but only had one day before we had to return to work and leave her for 10 hours at a time. I decided to turn her over to the Westside Animal shelter to be quarantined. Well, her quarantine time is up and we are running out of time and options for Chloe. Typically, with no advocates, a dog in these circumstances is considered unadoptable and will be euthanized right away. We have decided as a family that we cannot keep her at our house in our current circumstances. Our lives are so busy with work, kids, activities, i.e. being gone from home 8-10 hours daily etc.
We are making a desperate plea for someone in the right situation to take a chance on an affectionate, loyal, loving dog that is great with kids and other dogs. She is so very charming. She has always been the kid favorite with our friends and neighbors. She always sits very calmly to be petted and smiles a lot.” For more information on Chloe please call Benton Spradlin at (505) 508-6390.

ADOPTED Paco, a sweet Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees. is desperately looking for a forever home. Paco’s family was moving to Europe. They tried to find a new home for their beloved pup, and thought they’d placed him in his forever home with a family they found off of craigslist, only to discover that the family DUMPED poor Paco in the City Shelter. We are trying to help this sweet boy to get out of doggie jail. He didn’t do anything wrong. He has not only lost his family, but now his freedom, and any opportunity for love, pets, care and safety. Please help Paco to find his forever home. Paco is 3 year old Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees cross. From his last mom… “he will be your best friend. He loves the dog park and playing catch. Sarah Adopted is a wonderful, sweet and gentle girl. She is truly a gorgeous pup – and is very fit, sleek and extremely fast. She runs in the fast group with the “Dog Runner” weekly for over 5 miles. She has worked so hard to overcome behaviors caused by her “unfortunate incarceration” in the shelter system. She now mixes freely with my labbie crew and enjoys playing tug, tag, swimming, and fetch with all my guys. She is updated on her shots, is spayed, is totally housetrained, crate trained, rides great in a car, and does well on a leash. She really loves people and loves just sitting at your feet while you watch TV or playing fetch with toys in the house. She has really mellowed out and has integrated well into my family. She is very smart and really listens and follows commands well. We have worked with a trainer and probably will have one more session to ensure Sarah is truly the happy, well adjusted, well balanced girl that she appears to be. Our trainer is thrilled with her attitude, intelligence, and desire to learn. For more information on sweet Sarah please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted Together! Jack and Jill are near twins (brother and sister) who have been through a lot and would love to stay together. They are sweet and gentle 5 year old “mellow yellow” labs who lost both their owners in a short period of time and never left the house during their remaining older owners final months. The relied on each other and they are very attached. They both love to be with their people and are incredibly sweet, happy, gentle labs. They do love to play – Jack loves to fetch – and both love exploring the outdoors and water, of course. They know basic commands and respond well – are not aggressive in the slightest – and eat together w/o issue. They are housetrained – even with their sorry history – and are doing well with crate training . They spend nights in a crate with no accidents. Jill is more laid back, and Jack is a bit more excited – and together they are just an awesome pair for a family or single owner. These guys have had it tough and really are looking forward to being happy again with wonderful forever folks!
Their owners final wishes were that these wonderful guys stay together and we would love to make that happen for them. We do understand that this is not always possible – but these great labs are really easy keepers and would be a wonderful addition to the family! ADOPTED! Madison chocolate lab girl and Mackenzie \, the black lab girl, are around 3 months old and will be here on Monday, August 15th. They are in from the Roswell Humane Association. For more information on either girl please call 505/362-0331.
8/16/10 Today is a hard day. Madison and Mackenzie came in to Albuquerque today with the help of transporters for Animal Humane, and one of our fabulous volunteers, Shanna … thank you for bringing these two to safety. Heartbreakingly both Madison and Mackenzie were mutilated by some malicious person. These two sweet, probably closer to 8 week old girls, were hurt. Madison has had part of her ear cut off, the other ear, with apparently dull scissors, was scarred with four ridge lines by someone trying to make cuts. Her ear sticks out a little funny because of scar tissue. Her little wagging tail was thumping away, even though over two thirds of it was cut off. Mackenzie was not spared, her tail is about 2″ shorter than it should be, and on her rear paw she is missing toe nails, someone obviously pulled them out, and she has one half out that will require surgery because it’s infected. You may wonder why we do what we do? Hold either of these loving little girls curled up and trusting in your arms, their eyes shining as they look lovingly into your eyes. Look at them for their compassion and caring and forgiveness, even tho weeks old they’ve been hurt so bad. They are both sweet, and loving, and darlin and so deserving of being loved, and cared for, and never hurt again. Both are going into a loving foster home.
8/20/10 Update … Mackenzie has found her forever home. Madison is still looking for her forever home. From Madison’s foster home …. “Madison is an awesome pup! She has a large heart and is full of puppy excitement. She love to play outside and is good with older dog. She is getting the hang of proper potty spots! I hope she can find a loving home. I can’t wait for you to meet her!”
“Hi I’m Mackenzie!!!”

The reason we have to surrender Jazz is because my ex-husband had to move from a dog friendly rental, to a rental that doesn’t allow dogs. I have a 14 year old dog that will not give Jazz a chance. I have to keep them separated otherwise my dog will go after Jazz.” For more information on fostering or adopting this lovely girl please call 505/362-0331

from Lucy’s mom … “I have a black lab named Lucy. She is about 5-6 years old. I rescued her from a adoption center in Phoenix, AZ. She recently has been playing too hard with my little girl. I just started back to school and she is in the run a lot, and doesn’t get a lot of playtime.. She is very loving, and playful. It breaks my heart to give her up. I do not want her to go to the pound because I am afraid they will put her down. She is very healthy and I have all her medical records from the past. ” For more information on Lucy please call 505/362-0331.

7/21/10Update from their foster mom … “Addison is such a calm lover girl. I come home last night and she is asleep on my roommates chest on the couch. He is the one who is usually pretty hadns off with the dogs. It was really cute. The boy is amazing too. They are GREAT dogs. They mind really well and are picking up “kennel” and “sit”. The girl is not a bold as the boy but does not like to be left behind. As you know, they are great with kids and they are learning not to play too hard with the cats. We have had a few pee accidents in the house but nothing else. They like to chew so puppy proofing the yard is a must. Plants are a favorite of theirs. They are kenneled trained and can hang in the yard. They are not food aggresive and wait patiently for treats.”

Adopted! My name is Roscoe. I am about 90 pounds of pure love. I am a two year old light yellow lab boy who is housetrained, crate trained, leash trained and I know about 8 different commands and come back to my name and a whistle. I am perfect off leash and check back to see if you are coming often and when I go hiking I even know some hand signals for taking different trails. Ii get along with all other dogs, horses and children. i love water out of the hose, faucet and bathes are fun too. You can clip my toes and brush me until your hand comes off. I love to go for car rides and don’t get sick, usually i have my head out the window enjoying the fresh air. I am not food aggressive and takes treats very kindly. I make a great running partner, hiking partner and can even going mountain biking with you. from his mom … “He is a great animal and whoever gets him will be a very lucky person. Adopted! Babe (Ruth) or “Boo” is a doll. Boo is a middle age 7-8 year old dog who deserved much much better than to be dumped at the shelter by his owner. Why would someone turn in such a great dog? He is the quintessential house dog for lab lovers and anyone else for that matter. Even the pound went rooting for him to be taken on by a rescue This grand dog was heartworm positive and needed dental surgery but he is healthy and ready to go now. Boo, quite the gentleman, is quiet, loyal, patient and extremely affectionate. Boo is obedient and very focused on his handler. He loves to go in the car, snuggle at night and just be nearby. His gentle, easy-going way has endeared him to all the other rescue dogs at his foster home, even those who don’t always like everybody! Speaking of meows, Boo is also great with cats. We dare you not to love this handsome chocolate boy with a huge heart! If you are that special person who would be willing to take in a good boy for the second half of his life, give us a call. You won’t be sorry. Do you have a young dog that needs an older well behaved mentor to calm him/her down, then this is your boy! For more information on Babe please call Karon at 505-281-0330 (home) or 505-844-8283 (M-Th days).

Retained by her owners!! Due to a recent family medical issue Nevada is finding herself looking for a new home. She has been with her current family since she was a puppy. She is current on all shots, fixed, and micro-chipped. She has no medical problems. For more information on adding Nevada to your home please cal 505/362-0331
Balley Adopted! is a six year old spayed female lab mix. She was surrendered to Albuquerque Animal Services together with a second dog because the owner was moving. Balley is very shy. She is currently living in a foster home of one of the volunteers to give her more opportunities for socialization. She would love to have a new owner who could spend regular time with her. She gets along with the four other dogs in her foster home but would probably benefit from more one on one attention at least for a while. She likes men, women, kids and puppies (which was evident at an adoption event). She walks on a leash and loves her trips to the park. She’s well behaved inside and out and does become attached to her caregiver. Her only drawback is her shyness which will take time and patience to overcome. For more information on Bailey please call 505/362-0331.

Takoda Adopted! is just a calm, mellow, relaxed, sweet, big boy! from his foster mom … “He met my packwith no effort or trouble at all. He is not aggressive and recognizes that he is the new kid on the block, and defers to the pack hierarchy. He loves water – and headed for the kiddy pool first thing! He actually ran with the big boys with the Dog Runner and enjoyed a swim in the ditch. He loves being inside and is totally housetrained. He knows basic commands and is very gentle with treats and food. He was dumped at a outside pen at a shelter over a long weekend after being hit with pepper spray – so had no food for 2 days! Despite that – he is just a friendly, happy big goof of a guy who loves people and harbors no ill will toward anything or anyone! For more information on this big hunk of loving dog, Takoda, please call 505/362-0331.
