ADOPTED! Hi Folks! Ready to meet Kass? I played with Kass at a local park yesterday, and talk about a people magnet!!  Everyone who walked by asked if they could stop and pet him.  He obliged as any lab would do. Kass has the softest coat with a mixture of gray, brown, and black with some thick curls thrown in for good measure. He likes that he doesn’t look like every other lab mix.  He is  2 years old and is a healthy boy who’s newest hobby is running with his two legged foster sister! Kass is very tall and lanky. He is a happy go lucky dog and loves to play and fetch. Kass gets along well with other dogs but does not like cats. He is loyal, loving, intelligent and eager to please.  Kass is crate trained, housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door. He walks well on leash and doesn’t tug or pull. Kass has big beautiful brown eyes that will melt your heart when he looks at you.  He has blossomed into a wonderful house dog and has a lot of pride and self-confidence.  When we go on walks people comment on how pretty he is. Kass loves being part of a family. He has a wonderful personality and loves to snuggle!  For more information on meeting Luvin’ Labs Prince Charming please call 505-362-0331.

Adopted! 2/4/12  My name is Finley and I’m a handsome 1-1/2 year old male yellow labrador retriever.  I’m quite the happy boy and love playing with any kind of ball and with anybody that’s willing to throw it.  I’m very friendly, like most labs, and good with kids, other dogs and cats.  I’m house trained and now I’m working very hard on walking nicely on a leash.  My current family loves me very much, but due to some unfortunate circumstances beyond my control, I need to find myself another forever family.  If you are interested in meeting me call (505) 362-0331.

RETAINED BY OWNER – Meet Jack, a yellow male Labrador retriever about 4 years old. His owner recently passed away and he is currently living in a temporary foster home. Jack had a pretty difficult life and is need of a family that would provide him the affection and security he missed in his previous home. He would do best with a female foster/owner who could give him a life that is consistent and has a routine. He is timid at times and needs the opportunity to develop trust, especially with men. Jack’s current foster family has other dogs and children, and he does well with them.  He will require some patience and a lot of love, but the rewards will be endless. Can you be that special person who can give Jack a new life? If you would like to get to know Jack, call (505) 362-0331.

ADOPTED! Serenity was surrendered by her owners to the Socorro shelter for unknown reasons. Left in the shelter she was scared and would not eat. We pulled her into our foster program and expect great things from her with some consistency, love and time. Serenity is a purebred yellow lab, AKC registered although her former owners did not leave her paperwork. By all appearances she’s from a local breeder who breeds the sweetest, most loving, loyal labs. Let’s help find Serenity the much deserved serenity and peace in her life? Update from Serenity’s foster mom: Serenity is a little sweetheart who loves to play and loves just being around you.  She follows me around the house and always wants to be in whatever room I happen to be in. She is interested in new things but is cautious and respectful at the same time.  She thrives on cuddling and reassurances and will lay in your lap for pets if you let her.  Serenity appears to be both house and crate trained and I haven’t had any problems with her in the house alone while I am gone.  She is quite skinny and according to the vet, she should put on another 5 to 10 pounds.  She will do best in a household that has another dog. For more information on helping this beautiful girl please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted! Buster‘s owner passed away and this sweet boy had no place to go. Luckily Dion in Clovis is fostering him short term until we can find a place for him in ABQ. Buster is a giant boy (about 120 lbs) with a heart of gold. He is very gentle boy who has never met a dog or person he didn’t like.

He does have a few requirements he has asked for with a new home. He has asked for there to be someone at the new house to play ball with and it would be great if there was some water to play in from time to time. This boy is about 5-6 years old and honestly you wouldn’t find a better lab to add to your family. He is used to children and knows how to behave around them. For more information on fostering or adopting Buster please call 505/362-0331 or email colleenjwyatt@luvinlabs.com.

Retained by Owners! My name is Lilly.  I am a beautiful spayed yellow lab.  I am about 14months old and my family rescued me from a bad situation when I was a little girl pup.  Their family situation has changed, and mom just has too much to do right now, so they are trying to find a loving family for me so I can spend lots of time with my family! I love to fetch my ball and play toys.  I can sit and shake on command.  I am a great companion and would do very well in a loving home.  I’m a young lab, so I need to work on my manners still and learn to play nice with other dogs. I get a little too excited playing with my little kids and and still very mouthy,  so I need to be in a home with older children  I need a lot of love and attention but I will return all your love and be very loyal.  Please call 505/362-0331 for more information on Lilly!

Adopted 1/10/12! Beau came into Rio Rancho animal control as a stray. He is a sweet, approximately 10 year old neutered male black lab that is absolutely heartbroken and terrified at the shelter. He lays on his blanket and shakes because he doesn’t understand how he ended up in a cage. You can see in his eyes how lost and confused he is. He walks well on a leash and he will make someone a wonderful dog for his remaining years. His life should not end at the shelter. He will be available for adoption on 1/10/12 when his stray hold is up and we sure hope someone out there will want to help this beautiful boy out. Nicholas after emergency surgery to amputate his badly broken leg

Adopted !  1/23/12 Sweet Nicholas, nicknamed the Captain by shelter staff, is a beautiful 2 year old yellow lab. He was brought into Roswell Animal Control with a badly broken leg. Roswell Humane pulled him and took him to their vet where it was determined that he has 3 breaks in his leg, at his hip, knee and ankle. There were two alternatives for Nicholas, euthanizing him while he was under sedation, or amputating his leg. A good samaritan called us from Roswell Humane and with a commitment from our good friends at Good Shepherd Animal Clinic we opted to give this sweet boy an early Christmas present, his life, and a chance at a loving forever home. We are in immediate need of funds to pay for the $600 surgery to remove his damaged leg. Nicholas will be in Albuquerque later next week and will need a loving foster home. Can you help us to help Nicholas?

What do you call it when a brown Labrador Retriever is drying off from swimming in the lake? A Chocolate Shake! I am warm-hearted Chocolate Lab who came here with my sister to find a loving family and home. My sister’s name is Hazel #24674 (also a Chocolate), and we have lived together all of our 3 years. It just might be easy for our new family to adopt us both so we can keep each other company when you’re away. It is not required to do so, but you might want to think about it. We are both gentle, love walks and affection, have great leash manners, and know basic commands. We want to do whatever you like: learn new things, play with toys, get groomed. What’s not to love! I was assessed as being mellow, but Labs are an active breed and I want to become active again. Can we please walk and play alot? I am young and really need to shed quite a few pounds to be in good shape and to remain healthy. Come meet me, Amber, and Hazel and let us melt your hearts. Please call Albuquerque Animal Humane at 505) 255-5523 and ask about animal id 24765 for Amber and id 24764 for Hazel.

Have you always admired Labrador Retrievers and thought about adopting one? How about two? My sister, Amber #24765, and I have been together for all 3 years of our lives and would love to be adopted into a family who has the time, love, and desire for both of us. It’s not required to go together, but it might make all our lives easier. When you’re away, we’ll keep each other company. We are both gentle, love walks and affection, have great leash manners, and know basic commands. We want to do whatever you like: learn new things, play with toys, get groomed. What’s not to love! I was assessed as being mellow, but being a Lab means I am up for some fun and excitement and always love exercise. In fact, I do need you to put on my “running shoes” and work off some of this weight that is slowing me down. How about starting the new year and our lives together? Please call Albuquerque Animal Humane at 505) 255-5523 and ask about Hazel, id # 24764 for more information.

Adopted 1/6/12! Hi, my name is SOPHIE.   I was found as a stray in El Paso and somehow ended up on death row.  Thanks to Luvin’ Labs though that has all changed.  I was rescued last week and now I’m searching for my forever home.  My temporary foster mom thinks I’ve been a house dog before.  I know how to lie under a kitchen table at dinnertime waiting for something to fall.  I am crate trained and right now my crate feels the safest for me since I’ve been shuffled around a bit.  I can walk on a leash, but haven’t had much training.    I’m learning how to sit and lie down.  I’ve already mastered the doggie door after watching my dog friends at my temporary foster home.  I REALLY want to please people and  I especially LOVE petting and snuggling.  Did I mention that I’m also housebroken?  I’ve been very loyal to my temporary foster mom and want to bond with a special person forever.  Are you that person?  Right now I really need either a new foster home or, better yet, a forever home.  If you can help call (505) 362-0331.

Senior needs a home.

Pulled by another rescue! I am a gentleman in my senior years. I think my family moved away. I am 12 years old, and underweight. I have some arthritis which makes moving around a little slow — just like some people out there. I would love to have a nice quiet home to retire in, with a big soft dogbed to sleep on. I look sad — I am. I shouldn’t have to spend my last days at a shelter. Won’t you consider adopting me — I could be your best friend for a while. Stop and see me at the shelter. You won’t be sorry. Please call Rio Rancho Animal Control at 505) 891-5075 and ask about animal id C11-2019. This poor guy doesn’t deserve to die alone in a shelter. Someone out there must have room in their home and their heart for an old guy to spend his remaining years. Please call the shelter if you can help him.

Adopted! 1/29/12  Cooper (Coop) is a beautiful, sweet, smart one year old Aussie/Heeler mix boy that was abandoned at a kennel for about three months! The people who had him took him in for a one week stay and never picked him up.  So Coop spent three months at the kennel but was befriended by the husband of one of the Luvin Labs member, thus his induction into the Luvin Labs family. Lucky Cooper gets the opportunity to look for a forever home as a honorary lab. Despite his awkward start Coop is a well adjusted happy boy!  Typical of his breed he is smart, loving and has some great energy!  He gets along great with other dogs and tends to be submissive around them.  He gives some great kisses to doggies and to humans!   He takes a little time to adjust to new people but with the right guidance and assurance he becomes very comfortable and friendly .  He is a loyal and happy companion!  We even think he will be just fine with feline friends! Cooper is UTD on shots, microchipped, neutered, house trained and ready for his new start. Are you the one?  If you can be that forever family for this special boy call (505) 362-0331.

TRANSFERRED TO SAFE HARBOR Brandon may only be 14 months old, but he surely has an old soul. He is a wonderfully sweet calm boy. He does great with other dogs – no signs of  aggression and no alpha behavior. If another dog growls at him, he will walk away, rather than respond. He also has no problems with cats. He really loves to play with stuffed toys, loves chew toys, – loves to play TUG (with you or other dogs) – and enjoys playing fetch with toys or balls. He is extremely smart and knows many commands( the following are only the ones that I have tried)!: SIT, DOWN, STAY, COME, LEAVE IT, SHAKE, and HIGH FIVE. He is great with people and loves to be with his folks above all else. He weighs in at approx 70 pounds, but has no issue with his folks checking his feet or ears, and rolling him over…He is just an exceptionally good boy. He does love his treats and this makes him extremely trainable. Brandon, because of the changes in his life, is looking for a home where he can be a constant companion to his family. For more information please call 505/362-0331.

12/11/11 Update. Sweet Hope is recovering well, and is being adopted by her foster! Happy home Hope!

Hope is a beautiful 3 month old chocolate labrador pup who just arrived in Albuquerque from Las Vegas, NM. She was wandering as a stray and started staying by a house. The folks there saw her get hit by a car and the poor little girl disappeared for 4 days. When she returned they called animal control, and hope was picked up. Hope has a fractured hip and will have surgery to hopefully repair her hip, and pins put in.  She is just the sweetest girl around, and has a long pain filled recovery before she’s able to be placed in a home. Hope is our early holiday miracle, she’s so tiny yet she survived for days on her own with a fractured hip. We’re asking for help with Hope’s medical bills, so we can keep on helping her. Adopted! 12/3/11 Bailey is a sweet, gentle giant that loves nothing more than to receive pets and give kisses. We estimate her age to be around 9. She loves people and little kids especially. She gets along great with the rest of my dogs, has no need to be the alpha in the pack and loves to lay outside in the sun. Her favorite thing is to go for a walk. She will pull in the begininng but settles down soon enough. She really is a wonderful girl and so deserving of a family that is going to care for her for the rest of her life. For more information on Bailey, please call 505) 362-0331.

posted by colleen @ 9:33 pm

Adopted!  1/2/12 Update from Swayers foster dad (10/16/11). Sawyer is doing very well with his three foster sisters while also going through some significant retraining. We know Sawyer was chained up outside, ignored, and basically neglected in the past so we have been spending the last few weeks gaining his trust and reminding him of how to be a great companion.  He has gone for a walk every day this week and is doing absolutely great. With his new training collar he is not pulling at all, and is a real pleasure to walk with. He would probably like to jog, but dad just isn’t into jogging. He is heeling with his head right next to dad’s knee just like a grand champion.

Like all good Labs Sawyer loves his kibble but dad has been teaching him not to lunge at the dinner bowl.  He now sits until the bowl is on the floor and he gets an OK to eat. Of course then the food is gone in a flash.  We think Sawyer is about 14 – 15 months old now and he is growing out of the goofy puppy stage. He plays very well with his 10 month old foster sister and especially enjoys tug of war.

Sawyer has already gone through more than his share of adversity in his young life and is waiting for a forever home. Sawyer is proving his sweet resilience everyday and would love to be part of a safe, loving home that treats him kindly and consistently.  Do you have room in your heart for this beautiful sweet boy? For more information on Sawyer please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted!  12/25/11  Colton is an adorable black lab that ran out of time at the shelter in Las Cruces and is now in a foster home with Luvin Labs. He is neutered and is completing his heartworm treatment for low positive hw. It’s not a big deal, just 2 chewable pills a month that the rescue pays for.  He is ready for his forever home! He is a great, mellow, well trained boy who knows how to sit, lie down, sit up on his haunches and beg like a goofy lab, and is just a plain good boy.  This is one of the most balanced but wiggling labs we’ve seen in a long time! If you’d like more information on Colton,  or adopting this cutie, please give us a call at 505-362-0331.

Hunter is a 4 year old, stunning black Labrador Retriever currently at the Rio Rancho animal shelter. Look at his face. You can tell he’s unsure how he ended up at a shelter but hopeful that he will make it out of there. The shelter tells us he was picked up as a stray dragging a 20 foot chain from his neck. This boy obviously needs a better home life than the one that he had. Please call the shelter at 505) 891-5075 and ask about animal id C11-1853 for more information.

Adopted! 12/20/11 Cody is a 4 yr old 100 lb chocolate lab. He is used to tons of love and lots of space.  He had to leave his home because his deaf best friend started to beat up on him. His parents thought Cody would have a better chance as finding a home than his deaf brother, they are very sad they have to lose a member of the family. Cody has many great qualities. He is great with other dogs, kids (the five year old is giving him commands in the video), cats, and strangers. He is house broken and loves his kennel too. As you can tell from the video he loves the water and can play fetch all day long. And even though he is 100lbs, he will still try and cuddle up in the smallest ball next to you on the couch or bed if ever allowed.  He is truly a gentle giant. For more information on Cody please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted! 12/3/11! Cali is a big cuddle bug……she wants nothing more than to love and make you happy! She is very bonded to me and my family, loves to play with my kids and climb in my husband’s lap for some loving. She gets along great with my 3 other dogs and 3 cats. Is not food aggressive, does not bark without reason (she will bark at strangers that come to our yard) and walks well on a leash. She sits nicely for her food and will sit and lay down for treats. Cali loves to be involved in everything we are doing big or small. She is very happy to be allowed to lay up on our bed and cuddle but will get down and sleep on her dog bed when told to do so. We have a 5ft fence and she has never tried to jump or dig out of the yard. We would love to see Cali find a family that has lots of time to spend with her and plenty of love to shower her with. She enjoys our other dogs very much and I think would appreciate a buddy to hang out with. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet our sweet Cali.

Adopted! Hello, I’m Thor, and I will never give up hoping for a family of my own.  I’m a Lab and Pit Bull mix and I’m black!  That’s a double whammy these days, and I was in the shelter system for 2 years!  I’m so sweet, though, that I’ve made it this far on the love of my caretakers. Good hygiene isn’t easy in a shelter environment, so I arrived here kinda thin, with dull fur and smelling bad, but in all those years my gentle eyes never changed.  Now I’ve had a bath and good food and look at me shine!  Black dogs are hard to photograph so, if you should decide to meet me, you’ll be amazed how handsome I am in person.  I’m intelligent, too, and determined to please.  When our eyes meet, your heart might melt.I’m neutered, vaccinated, and my heart worm test is negative.  I’m housetrained, too.  My adoption fee is $125.00.  If you take a chance on me, I’ll make you so proud. For more information on me, remember I’m Thor,  please email Beverly at Beverly@BridgingTheWorlds.org or call her at 505) 501-1887.

Adopted! From Amber’s foster mom: Amber is dark chocolate lab 2-3 years old with light undertones, long legs, and wavy curls on her back (just what a lot of us girls would love to have)! She was found wandering at a lake in Gallup, so probably had to fend for herself for some time. However, she is quickly learning how to be a dog………snooze, eat, play and be loved (she is so affectionate). She’s settling into our home and is enjoying her foster sister, Nilla. Their favorite game is tug of war, and both are pretty set on winning! She’s very good about going to her toy box, and not chewing furniture or things that don’t belong to her. Amber is good with my two cats, has had no accidents in the house, and sleeps well in her crate at night. Amber is not food aggressive, and eats along side my lab for breakfast and dinner. During the day, Amber’s either outside with Nilla chilling under the patio, playing in the kiddie pool, or inside with me. She knows sit and down, and we’re working on other commands. She does well on a leash. Amber craves human attention and still gets a little excited to get it. We’re working on letting her know she doesn’t need to try so hard; she just deserves it. Oh yeah, Amber’s great with kiddos too (I have a 6 year old son who considers all labs to be giant pillows). If you’re looking for a big, beautiful and loyal girl, please call to learn more about Amber. For more information on Amber please call 505/362-0331

Adopted! Ruby finds herself needing a new home fairly quickly. From her current owners: Ruby is a 3 year old purebred Chocolate Lab. She is a big lab, but a very friendly and affectionate dog. She is still very puppy like in her excitability and playfulness. She has lived with another dog so multi-dog homes should be fine. She loves attention! She is great with all ages of children and adults. She would love to go on walks, but as my mother is aging and very petite Ruby is just too big for her to handle. She is a great companion and it saddens my mother to have to find a home for her, but since breaking her hip she just cannot risk Ruby bumping her in her attempts to play. That is the only reason she needs a good new home. I hope you would like to make Ruby part of your family. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 for more information on Ruby.

Adopted 11/18/11  From her foster mom: Meet sweet Sadie … she’s is a 3-4 year old yellow labby lab.  She is housebroken, crate trained and knows how to use a doggie door.  Sadie is very quiet and mellow.  She is not food aggressive and loves other dogs.  She would do better in a home with at least one other dog, she really needs a canine companion as well as a family to love her. Sadie is shy at first but once she trusts you she is your best buddy.  She loves long walks and is very active and playful but not destructive.  She can be trusted to stay out in the house while you are away.  Sadie loves to cuddle up beside you when you are watching TV and sleeps right beside you at night.  She will sneak in a kiss or two if she gets a chance.  Sadie is very loyal and loving.  She has had a lot of transition through no fault of her own, and despite a rough first few years she is a total sweetheart.  If you would like to meet beautiful Sadie please call 505/362-0331.

ADOPTED!! Dear Friends,

I am having a GREAT time at the Biberston household. Yesterday, I got to ride in the front seat of Bri’s jeep with my tongue wagging out the window. I wasn’t nervous in the car at ALL!  and as soon as we got home, she let me know the rules about sitting- before I do anything! I listened sometimes, but now I know she means business, and she says it’s one of my BEST commands. I am learning how to sit like a champ, and LOVE to be rewarded with treats. I am excellent on a leash with some reminding of my manners and I am as affectionate as can be. I LOVE Bri’s 7 mo old baby, Cade, and even show my most gentle side with sweet kisses. I am totally house trained and like being in my crate. I learned how to retrieve a tennis ball, and Bri is even teaching me this neat trick where I catch it in my mouth in mid air when you bounce it! And, boy, I can JUMP! I love having a big side yard all to myself, and most of the time I find a shady place to lounge. I am a great guard dog and let Bri know when someone is coming to the door! I am also learning how to greet new visitors with nice manners (by sitting and waiting patiently to approach). Everyone I meet says “WOW! He’s only a puppy!?” Everyone says I have the respect and temperament of a much older dog, I am proud to be considered mature! My foster mom, Bri, says I am such a great addition to the family that it’ll be tough to give me up. But she knows I am really just waiting for YOU! I am SO ready for my forever home, do you think I am the dog for you?

Love, Jake

He pulls a bit on the leash, but that was because he was so grateful to be out of his crate after the long drive here.  When he was in the vet’s office getting checked out, he was content to lay there on the floor, and when offered treats, he was as gentle as could be.  We’re sure he’ll be a good boy. Adopted! Amber finds herself needing a new home. Her current family doesn’t have the time for her that she needs, and we’re hoping to find her a family that can offer her the love, stability and training that she needs. She was kept primarily outside so she’ll need some work on house training to become the perfect indoor family member that she deserves to be. Amber is a very sweet 2 year old chocolate Labrador Retriever. She has never growled a day in her life. She is a bit lazy and loves treats and therefore she is overweight right now but a good diet will take care of that. She loves the water and loves to lay in the small kiddie pool in the backyard. She does retrieve but needs some training on that and she could use some leash training. She is not a barker but will bark if strangers come to the house. She is a loveable girl that deserves a chance to prove what a great dog she can be! But, that owner was put in a nursing home and his kids decided Drake was not necessary so they dumped him at the shelter. Can you imagine how sad and confused this beautiful boy must be? 5 is the perfect age for labs and we so want Drake’s story to have a happy ending. Adopted! Zoey is a young, purebred yellow lab, 1 year and 10 months old. Due to a family crisis, she finds herself needing a new family. She is awesome with kids of all ages (adults too), gets along with cats and other dogs. She tends to want to be the dominant dog in the house, but that is mostly due to the fact that she is kept crated or in a small dog run all day and doesn’t get the exercise that she needs. When she was taken to the dog park, she did great! For more information on making Zoey a part of your family, please give us a call at 505) 362-0331.

Marley is great with kids and other dogs, and more than anything just loves to be with her people and be loved on. She, like any young labs likes adventures like digging in her yard, and hanging out in the sunshine. She is an AKC lab, and we are looking for just the right home for her… one with lots of love and LOTS of cuddle time. She loves her current “kids” in the home and would do best with another family who is willing to give her lots of play time, and a daily walk. For more information on Marley please call 505/362-0331

Adopted! Hey everybody, my name is Jazzy! I’m a 1 ½ year old, female, Labrador retriever mix from Luvin Labs. I’m a very happy little girl looking for my forever home. You can see that I’m beautiful but I’m also very smart too! I would love to learn new tricks or anything you want to teach me. Making friends is easy for me because I’m very outgoing and like having fun with the other pups at camp. The camp counselors love me too! I give them unlimited hugs and kisses whenever they want! I like to cuddle and I’m a sucker for a good tummy rub. I just wish I had a family of my own to share my special hugs and cuddles with. A best friend that’s fun, active, smart, and will love you to death for ever and ever.  I swear, I’m totally perfect! Please give me a chance to be all of this and more. All I ask in return is love (and maybe a treat once in a while). For more information on Jazzy please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted! Max is a 14 month old fluffy lab mix who has been searching for his forever home for far too long.  Max is crate trained (he loves his bed which is in his crate), house trained, and is great on a leash.  He graduated from Jack and Rascal’s Obedience training and he really listens and responds well to training.  He is still a puppy, so he may not always do want you want –  but he hears you and does know what to do – he just has a mischeveous soul!  With a treat…he is yours!  Max loves to run, and play, and loves all toys.  He knows how to retrieve and he loves to play tug with other dogs (or you).  Max also loves his people more than anything.  He would rather hang out with you and play games or be close by your side, that to go outside…he would make a great addition to a house with a small yard or even an apartment.  Max just has this amazing spirit which makes you believe that there is nothing that he can’t do…He will need this as he is looking at hip surgery (paid for by Luvin Labs and donations) in the near future,  to allow him to live normally and pain free with his hip dysplasia.  Check out his video and you will see that there is no stopping this little guy…he loves that water – and there is just nothing that will hold him back! Adopted! Max is a 5 to 6 year old Yellow Lab.  He is very friendly! He is good around children and has never been rough.  He is house trained and used to being inside.  He has been in our lives for 5 years.  My daughter has developed a serious allergy to him so we are having to find him a home.  When my son visits, his little Yorky kind of bullies him.  Max is just a nice guy!  I hope to find him a home where he can be inside with the family. He is happiest as long as he is inside with the family where he feels loved.  Max loves the water and will go swimming if there is a pool that he can jump in with someone.  He won’t get in alone but will wait until you get in.  So I have a kiddy pool for him to play in. His original owner didn’t have the space or the time for Petey, so he was adopted out to a nice woman. Unfortunately, she lost her home and Petey was returned, but she has no yard and works all day so he’s lonely while she’s gone at work. We’d like to see him find a new loving home, with room for him to play and a family that can walk him and play with him like he needs. No more bouncing around for this guy. Adopted! Lucas is a wonderful 11 month old Labbie boy who has had to travel a long tough road to join the Luvin Labs family.  He was hours away from death in a rural gassing shelter,  but was saved and helped  by a wonderful volunteer.  He recovered from a bad case of mange and went through the treatments and quarantine. He travelled by air and by the rescue version of the pony express, and with the help of many more volunteers, he made it to Albuquerque where he is thriving and flourishing!  He is a totally happy boy, and loves all people.  He loves to play with toys and balls, and loves to carry toys around in his mouth.  Lucas is neutered, up to date on all shots, and has been given a clean bill of health from the vet.  He is great with other dogs and has a wonderful personality.  He is just a joy to have around – He runs around with his version of a big grin…his constantly wagging tail;  and is always ready to seek out your love, affection, and attention. Suni and Oso

September 6, 2011
posted by colleen @ 7:03 pm

Retained by Owner In a perfect world their dad wouldn’t be leaving for a military contract in Iraq, and these two lovely siblings wouldn’t have to face an uncertain future …. Dad would love to find a loving, safe foster home for both of them, so they’d be waiting for him when he comes back home. That’s not something we are expecting to find, but you never know …

That said, we are looking for a home for Suni and Oso before October 1st. We’d prefer a home together, they’ve been together their whole lives. Both are AKC Labs purchased from a local breeder. They are fully vetted. They are house trained and have Basic Obedience Training, Whistle Commands (while in water/woodland) and Hand Signals. They are great on a leash and walked together (left side) without any trouble. They are fast learners and have spent most of their days doing some kind of outdoor activity (trail runs, swims “road trips”). A normal day is outside at 5:30 am (they sleep in the house) at the foot of my bed; then around 6:30 am we drive for a run in the Monzanos (Coyote) Trail Head, back home around 7:30 am for breakfast. The rest of the day they are outside in a 5’ fenced grassed backyard with a Soup Bone or Rawhide. Oso (the male) is gentle and loves attention, will sit for hours for a rub or a brushing; he will carry a saddle pack with water and food if asked. Suni, will chase every bird out of your yard and loves to sit with her head on your laps for a petting while you watch TV. They both love to swim, OSO would swim to China if allowed to, Suni will swim. I have them on Whistle Commands (1-to come-2 to release) and they will pretty much break free of what they are doing to come to me and heel (left side), until released.  They both have “Home Again” chips and are current on all shots and have had a complete physical in May 2011.

They have always been together, my fault for that; it’s just as easy to take both as one. They are really no more effort than most single dogs, they do everything together. They have extensive time in the woods, trails and outdoors. They can run forever, if you can, but will heel to you if a nice walk is what you prefer. They don’t pull at their leashes when you walk them, they will walk without “chokers”, but I use them because of other dog’s bad behaviors.

They have been to several cattle ranches and know cows and horses, they might bark a little at once but, after being connected are happy to just hang-out. These dogs are ready for advance training, they are healthy and happy good with kids, Suni however gets nervous around new dogs until she gets used to them, this is mainly due to when they were pups; in Santa Fe the coyotes use to come around a lot.

For more information on fostering, fostering until we find their forever home, or adopting Suni and Oso please call 505/362-0331

Mason

ADOPTED!! Hello.  My name is Mason.  I am black female lab about approximately one year old. My current parents are moving away and can not take me.  From Mason’s mom: first thing in the morning she is let outside to do her business then comes back and has a bowl of her fave dog food. She loves to spend time outside (we have a pretty big back yard) and play with our chihuhua. She loves to fetch, run and go on long walks. She has tons of energy and needs lots of attention or she will start digging. When we first got her she began chewing on her tail, not sure if it was her way of adjusting to us since the vet said she didn’t have an infection or mites. I have a toddler and she did great with her despite my daughter wanting to ride her like a horse. She isn’t too fond of baths but will do good if you bathe her in a walk in shower and give her treats often (I usually bathe her weekly/biweekly since she loves rolling in the dirt). She is crate trained and will enter or exit her crate on command. I’ve also trained her to come once whistled to. As for her dislikes, she does NOT like vacuums or loud noises. When we first got her I tried trimming her nails with the PediPaw an she freaked out with the sound. After that I began taking her to the groomers and they had no problem trimming them. She is a very loving sweet dog and will make an excellent companion. If you are interested in meeting Mason, please call Luvin Labs at 505-362-0331.

Laney

posted by colleen @ 8:17 pm

Adopted … From her foster mom: Laney is a sweet girl who I think has had a very rough start to life. She’s learning that those days are now behind her and her new family is going to show her only love and kindness. Her little stumpy tail is always wagging, she seems so happy to be in a home with people and other dogs. She gets along fine with my other dogs (don’t know about cats), who are all much bigger than she is. She met a small dog this weekend at the adoption event and did just fine with her. She likes to chase the tennis ball around the yard and loves to jump in the kiddy pool. We’re working on learning some basic commands, and she knows to sit for her treats now. We’ve had no accidents in the house and she uses the dog door without a problem. She is quite small, about 50 pounds, walks well on the leash without pulling and loves to ride in the car. She is a very mellow girl and would probably do best in a quieter household as loud noises and lots of activity make her anxious. Once she learns to trust you, she really is the sweetest little girl.

Sweet Laney came in from a kill shelter in Texas and just arrived in Albuquerque. She’s currently in foster and is looking for her forever home, and some good, consistent food so she can put on weight. She’s a very sweet girl who did great in doggie daycare and loved the other dogs, and learned to trust people … rolling over for her favorite, regular tummy rubs : ) Laney is approximately 3-4 years old, a lovely light yellow, and sports a strangely docked tail. She is just waiting for her forever family… is that you? For more information on Laney please call 505/362-0331.

Adopted! Sweet Cheyenne’s dad is having to move out of the country and he’s heartbroken to give her up. Here’s what he says about his special girl: Cheyenne is the best dog ever. She is a little hyper at first but does fine once she’s familiar. Completely house trained has never chewed on a single piece of furniture or carpet in her life and never goes to the bathroom in the house. Gets along with dogs big and small doesn’t show any signs of aggression, in fact she never has shown any signs of aggression in her entire life and doesn’t even bark at other dogs when there yapping at her & really doesn’t bark hardly ever, it’s crazy. Gets along with every person, has a strong tail wag but is otherwise great with kids and at the very most will give them a slobbery affectionate kiss. Doesn’t mess with trash or even eat food if you leave it on the table and leave the room, it’s insane, you could leave bacon on the table and take a shower and it would be there when you got back she might be interested in it but won’t eat it. Is just the happiest dog ever and looks happy every minute of the day ,therefore it’s impossible to be bummed out around her. Loves long walks and is perfectly fine with sleeping on the floor or on a doggie bed. Such an amazing dog she really would quickly, if not instantly, be an irreplaceable member of the family or companion to a single dog owner. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like information on fostering or adopting Cheyenne.

Adopted! Katie is a beautiful black lab saved out of a kill shelter in New Mexico by a loving family intending  to find her a loving home.  She is around 8 months old. Katie is a great little girl, very affectionate and seems to attach quickly.  She walks on a leash very well, appears to be housebroken but does need to be watched… she’s still young. She will whine when she needs to go but it might take her a bit to find the right spot. Katie rides in car very well. She is gentle when taking a treat and shows no sign of food aggression.  She will be a loyal companion and is quite the tail wager. For more information on Katie please call 505/362-0331.

Buddy

Adopted!  Yeah Buddy! This is Buddy. Buddy is a 6 year old yellow Labrador Retriever that was pulled out of Rio Rancho animal control and is now safe with Luvin Labs in foster. He’s looking for a forever home. He is a tad on the chunky side, so he’ll be on a diet while in our care. Our volunteer had this to say about Buddy: what a great dog. He was surrendered to the shelter because he gets afraid during thunderstorms and tries to get away from the noise. There are so many things that you can do about storm fear, it’s a real shame that he had to end up on death row. Buddy is an amazing dog and it took me about 30 seconds to fall in love with him. He walks great on a leash, loves to ride in the car, loves kids, loves other dogs…in fact he was saying goodbye to all the dogs on his row as we walked out by putting his nose up to each of their cages. I can’t say enough about this dog and the family that adopts him will end up with a great family member. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to adopt this wonderful dog.

Update from his fosters (and his new adopted family) :  Buddy is all that is described above and more…except he isn’t afraid of thunderstorms!  He’s perfect.  And he is dropping weight because of twice a day walks and intermittent games of fetch!  We can hardly wait to get him in shape so he can go hiking with us in the mountains.  What a love.

She would be a good second addition to your home. She loves to be outside! She will make her way into your heart as your new best friend. She does well on a leash and stays just by your side. Adopted! From Leah’s foster mom: Leah is a sweet girl. She’s on the smaller side, and quite thin so we’ll be working on getting some weight on her. She’s doing great with my other dogs but really loves people. She is a first class snuggler and loves nothing more than to be with her humans. We’ll be working on learning some basic commands and just settling into a family. She’s already learned the dog door, and sleeps the whole night through without needing to go outside. And so far there have been no accidents in the house. Leah is just a loving girl with the silkiest fur and ears. She’s waiting for her forever family.

Bradley

posted by Jonie @ 9:35 am

Adopted! Bradley was saved from the gas chamber in a Dallas shelter and is now safely in foster in Albuquerque. He is approximately 2 years old, big boned, has that wonderful big box lab head and loves to play.  He is such a happy boy which is amazing considering his rough start. He is very polite, walks well on a leash, is great with other dogs, and just a love with beautiful amber eyes. From his foster mom …Bradley is a very laid back, sweet natured, happy-go-lucky kinda lab (around 2 years old).  I would describe him as a “mellow yellow”, who’s happiest being near his people.  However, he does enjoy playing with his designated toys. He is easily corrected when doing something he shouldn’t. He is great with my two cats, and just watches with minimal curiosity. He has rarely barked, and that’s usually when he’s having a friendly game of wrestling with my 2 year female lab. They have bonded very quickly, so he would do well with another canine friend.  He interacts wonderfully with my 6 year old son, who always likes to lay right on him.  Bradley’s met strangers, men, women, kids, been to pet stores, the vet, and all with a very friendly disposition and tail wagging. He seems to be a very polite walker on the leash, and is good with heeling and stopping. We’re also testing the waters with him; we have a kiddy pool in our yard, but so far he’s chosen to just take drinks from it.  I think my lab will end up giving him a lesson or two on cooling off from the heat!  Overall, he’s just the sweetest, easiest, big boy lab, who’s integrated into our family with extreme ease. Bradley has A LOT of potential and will make someone a wonderful companion.” Please give us a call about Bradley if you’d like to give this sweet boy a wonderful home 505) 362-0331.

Buck gets to move with his family!!!  Buck is a big, handsome 4 y.o. fox red lab with the sweetest disposition. He is wonderful with children and lets my 19 month old son do pretty much anything to him! Buck gets along great with every dog he meets, but he is not a fan of cats and will chase them. He also loves playing ball as much as the next lab, and really needs a home with someone who wants to play with him. He is quite a chow hound, and sometimes surfs the kitchen counter for a snack, but there’s nothing Buck likes more than being with people. Adopted!! Charlie was an owner surrender to CCAS (in Texas) in March who was required to be in isolation for 90 days due to catching a skunk and having no vaccination history.  Charlie was able to get into foster with the help of donations and after his 90 day isolation went home to a new family, happy, healthy, lovable, vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His new family has young children and other dogs, and Charlie did great with them. However, he is able to jump their 4 foot fence so he was sadly returned. Now they are in need of finding another foster or forever home for Charlie or he will be returned to the shelter without much hope of ever getting out again. This poor guy has been through so much, we really hope that doesn’t happen. Please email Carrie if you can help out with Charlie at clbjlt@yahoo.com.

Lexie

May 21, 2011
posted by colleen @ 6:07 pm

Adopted! Update from her foster mom: Lexie is just a beautiful dog. Her coloring is quite striking, although sadly her tail was docked somewhere along the way. She’s on the smaller side, walks pretty well on a leash although she does like to be out in front, and gets along great with other dogs. She loves to run around the backyard with the rest of the pack, although she does get a bit scared when they all try to jump on her while playing, but she doesn’t get aggressive at all, just runs into the house. She figured out the dog door in a matter of seconds. She’s house trained and likes nothing more than to sit next to her people on the couch or lay at their feet. She already knows sit and I think she’ll be pretty easy to train. She very much wants to do the right thing and will watch for queues on how she should behave. I think she’d be great in a home with another dog, she gets along with males and females, she seems quite smitten with my 15 month old male puppy. She’s a total sweetheart that just needs her forever home.

Today at Fetchapalloza we met Lexie, an owner surrender to an over full shelter who had today to find a home, she didn’t. Lexie, a lab mix with rottie markings, looked very sad in her crate, her legs shaking. I bent down to see her and she put her paw on my hand through the cage (big heart gulp). We were informed by the shelter staff that she was an owner surrender, the neighbors dogs kept jumping into her yard, and she barked, so off she went to a high kill shelter. She’s as sweet as pie, loves to just sit by you and lean up against you. Lexie is good on a leash, great with the other dogs we ran into at the crazy event, sits great in the car but got a bit scared as to where we were going (can you blame her?) Lexie appears to be housebroken, is smaller, around 55 pounds, is 2 years old, and is just waiting for her forever home while she is safe in boarding in Albuquerque. For more information on adopting sweet Lexie, please call 505/362-0331.

Sunshine is one of Mary’s pups.  She is very friendly and outgoing.  Sunshine loves to swim and play in the water.  She loves other dogs, cats, and especially toys.  Sunshine is crate trained and is doing great with house training.  She is 3+ months old and growing so fast.  She loves walking and is doing well with the leash.  This little girl is so sweet and beautiful.  She is very light in color and has gorgeous light aqua eyes (which will probably turn gold like her mother’s).  If you are interested in adopting this sweet little girl please call 505-362-0331.

Coco

August 3, 2011
posted by Jonie @ 8:02 pm

Adopted! Coco was found at the abandoned ball field in Dixon (60 miles north of Santa Fe) by some walkers. This was on July  27th. He was happy to jump in their car and go home, where he immediately went into the house and made himself at home on one of the beds. Unfortunately, he chased one of the cats (who scratched his eye) and had to come to the Dixon Animal Protection Society.  He is about 3 to 4 years old, has been neutered, dew claws removed, knows to sit and lie down and loves jumping in the car for a ride.  He knows to sit for treats. Coco is wonderful with the other dogs at the shelter—he is not very interested in them, but wants to be with any person who is around. Coco is very calm and extremely “laid back.”  He was micro chipped, but the membership had run out and we are unable to find his initial people.  We did find out his name and he responds to it.  He is very well trained and  in need of a family—probably no cats. We cannot keep him indefinitely at DAPS, so  are very anxious to find him a person or persons. I know he will attach himself to person, as that is what he seems to need most.  The other dogs here want to play, but he only “has eyes” for a human. He shows no signs of abuse or aggression and is very well trained. He is definitely used to being in the house. Please call the Dixon Animal Protection Society at 505-579-4608, or email them at daps@cybermesa.com to meet Coco.

Rowdy and Bandit

March 20, 2011
posted by colleen @ 6:27 pm

Adopted! Rowdy and Bandit are 5 year old brothers, a bonded pair who were surrendered to the Garland Animal Shelter in Texas where they were saved  by Texas Collie Rescue and a fabulous group of volunteers moments before being put to sleep.  They are currently being fostered near Arlington by a loving family and can be transported once we have an approved home.  From their foster mama … “Rowdy has a stoic personality; he is also skin and bones.  He was not really into food for the first 12 hours, but has discovered how much he does like to eat.  I have decided to provide him more calories than would normally be given because I think Bandit has been stealing his food for a long time.  Right now, we have a routine where Rowdy gets extra crunchy rations, and Bandit gets pets and love.  Both are happy with the arrangement. These guys are amazing!  Even after their ordeal, I asked them to sit, and Rowdy had the focus to retain a sit stay within 10 minutes of entering our home.  Bandit complied, but was anxious and went to pacing shortly afterward.  They have been worked with in the past.  They REALLY like each other, and I am of the opinion that they should not under any circumstances be separated.  They comfort each other - you can see it. Bandit is the quintessential lab: big, goofy, loving, and intelligent.  Rowdy is more laid back but will still come to you for love.  Both like to follow you around the house.  They wanted to see what was going on when I was in the shower this morning. They gave their entire affection from the first moment they met us.  I do not see bonding to be an issue at all with whoever they end up with. They are going to be a wonderful addition to a family!”  For more information on Rowdy and Bandit please call 505/362-0331

He does well on a leash, sits for treats that he takes with a soft mouth, does great in a car and is very social with other dogs. For more information on fostering or adopting Bowen please call 505/362-0331. Update from Bowen’s foster mom … “Bowen, our new yellow lab furbaby, is a very nice boy. He is very well mannered and totally “potty trained”. Bowden is very easy to include in our family activities…..he is a “go with the flow” kind of guy. He rarely barks and seems to be totally infiatuated  with birds. Bowen loves running in our backyard and jumping in the large doggie pool. He responds well to “lovies” and never wants me to stop. He will be happy to find his “forever home”. Some family will be very lucky to have this fine boy in their family.”

Adopted! Meet SamanthaSamantha is an adorable 4 month old chocolate lab that is now safe in foster after being pulled out of Artesia. From her foster mom: Samantha is a total puppy, interested in everything, just wants to run around and play with my other dogs. She loves the kiddy pool and jumps in and out of it. We’re working on all the basics, house training, crate training, learning some basic commands. She learned the dog door in only a few minutes. She’s getting the hang of sit. She still needs some work on how to take treats nicely, but only because she gets so excited. She likes riding in the car but isn’t too fond of the leash. Best of all, she loves to snuggle in your lap and with my other dogs. I think she’s going to be a good size lab based on the how long her legs are and the size of her feet. She’s just a sweetheart and has the prettiest face and hazel eyes. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 for more information on Samantha.

She should go to a home with another active dog as playing is her passion. Friendly to people she knows but can be wary of strangers or strange places. Monique recently (June 12th ish) lost her left hind leg due to being hit by a car but has made a complete adjustment. She is in foster through the City. When not playing soccer, he is chasing and catching tennis balls. He relates very well to other dogs and loves being with people. He likes going to new places and rides very well in a vehicle. He is house trained to use a doggie door and sleeps quietly all night in the bedroom. Adopted!  Meet Chantilly, a beautiful little labrador retriever/retriever mix who is about 4 months old. Poor girl has had a rough start to her life … she’s skinny as all get out and appears to be missing her left eye. She LOVES to cuddle, appears quite submissive, but is always wagging her tail. Let’s find Chantilly a perfect home forever? For more information on her please call 505/362-0331.

Update from  foster:  We’ve only had Chantilly for a short time, but I can tell you, she is one amazing puppy.  She is quiet, loves to be near her people, and so far has shown us that she is house trained.  While she tends to be on the shy side and just wants to please you , she is a typical curious pup.   She would love another dog to play with who doesn’t mind her puppy ways.  While most labs have to watch their waistline, Chantilly enjoys eating whatever she wants at least until she gains some much needed weight.

From his foster dad … “Blackjack is a beautiful, big black 3-4 year old lab who’s looking for a forever home where he’ll get lots of love and affection.  This gentle giant loves nothing more than sitting near his people and getting lots and lots of love.  He gets along very well with our 3 other dogs, and is super gentle with our two children, letting them hug and love on him as much as they want.  He’s got a gentle loving expression in his eyes that tells you immediately he wants nothing more than to be loved.  He especially loves lying on his doggie bed- he’ll lie there quietly for hours.  Blackjack is house trained as well as crate trained.  He does not jump up, does well on leash and knows sit.  We are working other commands such as lie down.  This sweet boy is going to make some lucky person a very loving loyal companion and would make a great family dog.    ”For more information please call 505/362-0331

Adopted! Willie is the regal statesman…..he is quiet, friendly, beautiful and a bit lazy. He is quiet and obedient. He prefers to sit at your feet on a blanket and nap. He is not hyper, doesn’t have any great desire to run around and play (although he does like his walk) and he is great about waiting to be “allowed” to go out to do his “business”. We even let him “play” with a 3lb puppy and he was gentle as a mother dog with his new friend! He is simply the best guy! He is BIG, taller than a lot of labs and has great big feet to match. He loves to go for rides in the car too! Willie would make a loyal family dog or great friend for anyone. He doesn’t mind being left alone, has no separation anxiety and really likes MEN! This is a wonderful dog, not a hyper, jumpy lab at all.  Content to crawl in a crate and nap. Email to adopt Willie! quaycountyanimals@yahoo.com

Our little Rigby went to her forever home with another rescue. Meet our sweet little girl Rigby!  Can you believe this sweet little baby was dumped off the side of a highway in Artesia, NM with her mom to fend for themselves and dodge all the traffic and worry about all the coyotes?  It was pretty scary out there for them and Rigby and her sweet mom were trying to find safety when a nice person picked them up and brought them to Artesia Animal Control to get them out of harm’s way.  As it turns out, Mom found her way to a no-kill rescue group and left the pound for her new life but little Rigby was left behind and had to get out of the pound fast so thankfully the very kind people at Luvin Labs made room for this sweet little baby and got her off death row, but now she needs your help to find her forever home!  Are you the perfect, forever home for this sweet girl who has already been through so much in her short life? Rigby is a 6 to 8 week old, female border collie/lab/English setter mix of sorts….whatever her mix, she is one darling girl! Her mom appeared to be a border collie/English setter/English pointer mix and we’re just not sure what daddy is, maybe a lab/border collie mix too.   We think she will be a medium to large dog.  Did we mention that this little girl is super friendly with lots of personality??  We promise she’ll steal your heart…it will be love at first sight!  She is so excited to find a home of her very own and be on her way to a new start and new life…she’s told us she can’t wait to give lots of puppy kisses (which we all know are the very best) and find the love of a family of her own and maybe even get some new toys to play with!  She already enjoys playing and belly rubs and is eager to just be a fun loving puppy! Please consider adopting Rigby today and giving her the second chance she so deserves!!! Please call us at (505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet this adorable pup.

Adopted! Stoney is a one year old, Labrador Retriever Mix. He was found in Clovis, in the desert. He was very thin, sick and pitiful looking. He was obviously dumped out there, and left to die. This boy is a true survivor. The woman, who took him into her home, cared for him and began his journey towards full recovery; contacted Great Dane Rescue and we agreed to be the second step. He came to us, in need of medical attention, food and TLC. He is recuperating in an excellent foster home and is doing very well. We have discovered he is potty trained, and gets along well with other dogs and cats too! Several dogs have come through this rescue, in bad shape. We are always amazed by their ability to forgive. This dog gives new meaning to the word, resilient. He lets his foster Mommy know every day, how grateful he is. Dogs like Stoney are rare. He’s a sweet, smart, handsome guy, who is looking better every day. He would make an excellent addition to any family. He will most definitely remember where he came from and appreciate the lucky adopter who takes him in and completes the full circle he has earned and deserves. For more information on Stoney, please contact the Great Dane Rescue of El Paso at www.gdrescueep.org.

Adopted! This is Zoey. Zoey is a purebred black Labrador Retriever in danger at the Rio Rancho animal control. She is an owner surrender and has been available for adoption since July 9. She is 2 years old, very friendly, good with kids and housebroken. Her family was using her as a breeding dog and apparently was finished with her as they left her at the shelter to hope and pray that a new family will see her as a potential new family member. Please call the shelter at 505) 891-5075 and ask about animal id C11-1077 for more information on Zoey. If you should stop up there to visit her, she was put in the quarantine section because they had no open cages, they are very full. Please ask if she’s still there because she just may be out of the normal runs. She won’t get seen until room opens up in the normal dog cages.

Adopted! Tami is a very young 9 year old pretty girl who lost her home when her dad had to move into an assisted living place. Tami LOVES her walks and is a quite active for a lady her age. She’s house trained, does well on a leash, gets along great with other dogs, and is very well behaved. Tami knows all of her basic commands and is just waiting for her forever home. Tami is about as sweet as they come! For more information on Tami please call 505/362-0331. Update from the foster mom and dad:  ”Tami is a great inside dog.  She has found her “special place” in the house beside the bed and can be found there most of the time.  She loves to explore the yard without digging, chewing, or destroying.  One of her favorite things to do is supervise the kitchen activities.  She sits politely watching all that goes on…no counter surfing here.  Her table manners are impeccable.  She sits and waits, then eats slowly and politely.  On the leash, she is eager the first couple of minutes, but then settles in.  She loves her mom and her sibling sister already, but to be honest, she’s a “daddy’s girl”.”

Retained by owner with a bit of assistance from Dawhoo’s Fun … Kenai is a sweet purebred 8 year old yellow lab. Kenai (pronounced Keen-i) is an Alaskan name (Kenai peninsula, river and town).  He was 8 years old the end of May. He is playful and loves to retrieve tennis balls. He loves to chew on things but chews most toys up quickly. Tennis balls last longer, he usually walks around with one in his mouth.  He loves to be around people and is easy going. He is very non-aggressive.  He has been a house dog his whole life but also loves to be outside.  When given the opportunity to be out in the yard that is where he likes to hang out. Kenai loves water, any time he can go swimming he is there. When you are home, he wants to be with you. He will follow you around the house and lay at your feet when you sit down.  He enjoys car rides.  He is friendly with children and even if they climb on him or pull at his tail he does nothing. I think at this time in his life they maybe be a bit annoying, but he will not do anything to stop them other than leave. For more information on adopting this perfect gentleman, Kenai, please call 505/362-0331

He gets along great with other dogs, is fairly calm and mellow, LOVES water, and is supposed to be just stunning. They nicknamed him Tugboat, because he loved swimming with his foster dad and pulling him through their pool. We’re sure he’s going to make a great family member. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to adopt Travolta. From his Albuquerque foster … “He is definitely house trained and he does not get out of the pool until he is good and wet.  He is the sweetest dog in the world though. Just wants to swim and “hang with the homies”, that is his calling in life. Just a great dog. If I we didn’t have our other dogs, he’d be my choice,  Just a great dog!”

We’ll need to find a foster for him quickly. Please give us a call if you can help us out with JD. Our volunteer down in El Paso tells us that JD is a wonderful big boy, smart, energetic but not hyper, good natured with a sweet disposition. What a wonderful labby boy!

Hi all … please help us to help this sweet young boy? We are the only hope he has of finding a home, and at LIFE. How many of us today have had the opportunity to save just one life? To impact a caring, feeling, loving creature with the capacity to love? Don’t you think JD deserves a chance?

This sweet boy is scheduled to be pts on Monday. He is down at the shelter in El Paso. We are the only lab rescue in New Mexico and currently have no room, no options and no place for sweet JD to go … can you please help? He needs an immediate foster or forever home. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 if you can help.

Adopted! Hi my name is Cody. I am a purebred chocolate lab and will be 2 years old on August 28th. I am a friendly, playful and loyal boy.  I love to hike and swim and am naturally very happy. I am very affectionate. I love people but do not like another male dog in the household with me. I get along with female dogs just fine, but if there is a dominate male dog living with me, I may feel tension. Therefore, I’d love to go to a family where I will be the only dog or with another friendly female dog. I love attention and am obedient to my family. I will be your No. 1 fan and cheer you up. I am AkC registered and all of my shots are up to date. I am from a loving family who cares about me deeply, but they can’t keep me because I couldn’t get along with another older male dog (15 year old lab mix), even though I get along with the female dog perfectly fine and love my family. I want to go to my next loving family where people take good care of me and genuinely love me. Please take me home, I will be a wonderful addition to you and your family. My mom is moving out of state in 10 days, and If I don’t get adopted I will have no place to go. Please take me home and love me. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet Cody.

Bear is safe!

Adopted!  This is Bear. Bear is a black Labrador Retriever who is now safe with Luvin’ Labs. He is around 5-7 years old (the vet will tell us more) and sweet as all getout … here’s an update from his foster mom … “Who is Bear?  It’s clear that he was named after the bear, Gentle Ben, cause that’s our Bear in a nutshell: gentle and noble.  He came to us quite a bit thinner than he should be, but has a healthy appetite.  Bear doesn’t jump up on you, doesn’t take toys or food from other animals, and is willing to share his toys with other animals.  He likes to retrieve a tennis ball and watching his gazelle-like gait is a sight to behold.  As hungry as he is, he showed total respect for this cook’s time and space in the kitchen while preparing the people’s meal, and it was clear he wanted a scrap or two after supper yet he laid back at a respectful distance. Bear was great with three yapping, anxious chihuashuas — just wagging his tail hoping they would stop scolding him and join in a play game! This is a report after 4 hours of having Bear in our home; I am sure as he becomes more secure that he is home that he will reveal more charming characteristics. Adopted! Meet Easten. Easten is now safe in a loving foster home after he ran out of time at the shelter in Carlsbad. This big, goofy teddy bear is a purebred chocolate lab and is about 3 years old. He loves children, loves the water (good lab) and loves to go for rides in the car. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to make this loving and deserving boy a part of your family.

Update from Easten’s foster mom: Easten hasn’t one aggressive bone in his big, beautiful, chocolate body.  When I walked him around our neighborhood, full of dogs barking, he didn’t even notice or care.  He does need some training on the leash, however, he was very responsive to correction.  He ignores my two cats, seems house trained, sleeps well in his crate at night, or just in my room on a doggie bed.  He LOVES water and toys.  He will fetch and retrieve until you are worn out!  He knew exactly where my Lab’s “toy box” was, and hasn’t bothered any of our other things.  He is also GREAT with kids.  I have a 6 year old son, who has definitely met his match with energy level.  Easten would do well in an active household with someone willing to teach him the things he needs to know, and give him a lot of  love.  He’s a total teddy bear!

Adopted! My name is Hope, I was named Hope because of the angels who found me wandering alone and lost on a Arizona reservation. I am being transported  to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I hope to find my loving forever home. When my Angels got out of the car to feed the few reservation dogs I was the first one to run up … when Angela got down to pet me, I ran over and kissed her face … glad for a kind human, grateful for food, and happy for a bit of loving. I am about 2 years old, very sweet, riding great in the car with my foster sister. I do well with other dogs, am very sweet and loving, obedient, and need a bit of time to figure out what a leash is. Please won’t you help me, Hope, to find my forever foster, my forever home? I’ve been lost and wandering for a long time … I want a safe place, a family to love, a soft bed, and lots of FOOD (well I am a lab!) … love, Hope.  Please call me at 505-362-0331.

Adopted! Meet Levi. Levi came from animal control in Rio Rancho where he ran out of time. This cutie is a yellow lab mix who’s on the smaller side, around 50 pounds, and is about 2 years old. He loves to be around people and other dogs, and he’s learning about cats. He would do well in a home with another dog.  He knows some basic commands already like sit, off, no, he loves to ride in the car and walks like a champ on a leash. And he loves to sit in your lap. He would do well as part of an active family. Please call (505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet Levi.

From his foster:  Levi is just an incredibly affectionate Labbie Boy!  He loves his people and is just totally bombproof.  He has no aggression of any kind:  about food, or around other dogs, or with people.  He is actually afraid of cats…and will not go near them.  He is great in the house and is quickly learning crate training.   He loves to fetch – still working on his return game…and loves to play with toys.  He is very calm but has been mistreated in the past as he has shies at sudden movements and load noises.  Despite this – he just loves people and loves life and is ready for a wonderful future!

Adopted!  Winston is a beautiful 80-pound, nine-month old English Lab that is looking for an energetic family who has lots of room to play!  He LOVES people and other dogs.  Don’t know about cats because he’s never met one.  He’s crate trained, house trained, neutered, microchipped, shots up-to-date.  He loves to swim but wants to touch the bottom at the same time!   He LOVES to ride in the car and is a good traveller.  Is not food or toy aggressive and has a very small playmate with whom he shares his toys and food.  He is a very strong boy and probably not the best choice for small children just because of his strength.   Needs to work on obedience training.  Knows basic commands….speak, sit, down, kennel, shake, roll over, stay, “see it” — which means he sees two fingers pointing at something in the other hand and won’t touch it while “seeing it”…then says ”take it”…and he does.   He likes to take naps in the morning and afternoon.  He is kenneled for his naps but not at night.  He likes to move around at night to sleep.  Sometimes he sleeps in his kennel, sometimes in the bathtub and sometimes on his thick quilt on the floor.   He LOVES his baths and really almost falls asleep in the tub.  He’s a lovable loving young pup that needs someone strong enough and committed enough to work him through obedience training. She loves to  cuddle and play; fetch is her favorite. We did get ‘sit’ down and now she’ll  lay down…with a treat of course!  She is very loyal; she’s always by your  side, and sometimes she’ll even save your seat for you on the couch.  Koki is  just a really sweet, happy girl!” … “Koki is an amazing pup! She is so sweet and loving; she’s an absolute doll. She is very intelligent and well-behaved too as long as she is getting attention (she tends to get bored easily). She is fully house and crate trained, all I do to get her in her crate is say “Crate” and she goes right in. She does sit wonderfully; we are still working on lay down. No food aggression at all and she is amazing with kids. She is extremely energetic and full of life! She is a very sweet girl who needs nothing more than to live out her golden years in a happy and loving home. She is now safe in foster and her foster mom says she is just a wonderful dog! She probably wasn’t treated all that well in her previous life, but despite that, she loves people. She is doing great with my other dogs, very submissive with them, and her tail never stops wagging. In fact, her whole body wags when she wags her tail. She is housebroken and uses the doggy door. She is just a happy girl and a joy to have around the house. The very first thing she did when I brought her home was go outside and jump in the kiddy pool. Adopted!  Bambi is a 3yr old labrador retriever with a temperament as sweet as his name. Bambi loves other dogs, and is the adoptive “daddy” to several puppies at the shelter where he was staying. He is super with human children too. This beautiful guy knows “sit” and like most labs, will do anything for a treat. Bambi’s former owner worked at a dog daycare where she brought him each day and he was perfectly behaved, but when she changed careers, she did not have a place to bring Bambi, and he became a primarily outdoor dog. Last month, his owner noticed him limping and realized that she would not be able to provide him with medical attention, so she brought him to the shelter in Espanola, where the source of his problems was discovered. Bambi has a bum full of buckshot! Possibly from the buckshot, or possibly from a separate injury, this big boy has damage to his hip that will require surgery. Luvin’ Labs is working to raise the funds for an FHO and biopsy of the damaged joint, and in the meantime, Bambi is waiting patiently in his foster home. As foster mom sends us updates on this lovely dog, we will post more information, but he became such a staff favorite here at the shelter, that we sure hope that he will work his way into someone’s heart and loving permanent home quickly.  For more information on fostering, adopting or donating to help Bambi please call 505/362-0331

Adopted!  Kane is a beautiful 4 year old white lab with a dash of Great Pyrenees in him. He came to us from the Dallas, Texas area and is currently in foster in Albuquerque. He’d love to find a home if at all possible with his big pack sister Stella, but can be placed separately as well. From Kane’s foster dad … “Kane is a large yellow boy with a friendly disposition to both people and other dogs. He enjoys chasing other dogs at the dog park without getting into unfriendly altercations. He enjoys walks or short jogs around the neighborhood. Kane prefers sleeping at the side of his peoples bed; however, he is in tune with the environment around him and will alert if he hears unaccustomed noises outside the house. His size and bark will definitely intimidate most would-be burglars. He will do good with an active family that will ensure he gets plenty of exercise by taking him hiking,  jogging, or the local dog park for off-leash activities. He rides will inside a truck or automobile.” For more information on Kane please call 505/362-0331

Adopted! Stella is a very sweet 8 year old black lab who just arrived in Albuquerque from a Dallas Texas shelter. She’s currently in foster in ABQ and is doing great!   Here’s what her foster Mom has to say, “  We went for a walk yesterday, which she LOVED.  She pulled a bit at first, but she settled down after a few minutes.  She did really well around the house this weekend and likes to sleep on her doggie bed in my room at night.  She hasn’t had any accidents in the house yet; she will let you know when she has to go outside.  She goes to the backdoor and looks out and gives a small bark to let you know she wants out.

She loves being pet, of course, but she also seems perfectly content to be exploring the backyard.  She has a lot of energy for a 8 year old lab, and she gets around really well. She is super friendly and wanted to meet everyone and every dog we passed on our walk. She went right up to my neighbor with her tail wagging, waiting for some attention. I haven’t noticed any food or toy aggression at all. She’s really a great dog, and I think would like to be in an active household, given her energy level.” For more information on sweet Stella please call 505/362-0331

Adopted!  Sadie is a 9 year old purebred black lab. She is great with children and adults, as well as other dogs and cats. Sadie has an excellent temperament and is very mellow. She is housebroken, crate trained, and knows how to use a doggie door. Sadie loves attention and follows me everywhere I go. She loves long walks and does very well on leash. Sadie is a large, tall, lanky girl (we call her our gentle giant). She doesn’t act like a 9 year old dog; she is still energetic and playful. She gets so excited when I come home from work. Sadie is extremely intelligent and very obedient. Sadie is an indoor dog and is not destructive. She will sleep quietly on the couch when left alone in the house. For information about adopting this beautiful girl please call 505-362-0331.

How any one could let this adorable girl go missing is a mystery, but she is our gain. If you’d like to meet this fuzzy bundle of love, please call us at 505) 362-0331 and ask about our little Lilly.  Update from Lilly’s foster mom … “Lilly is wonderful!  No accidents in the house if she’s taken out every hour, she sleeps all night in a crate, does great with other dogs, and is very gentle with my foster kittens.  She LOVES to lie by me and follows me everywhere!”

Adopted! Otis is a 4.5 year old, Red Bone Hound/Lab Mix. He spent the first two years of his life training with Assistance Dogs Of The West.  Otis completed his training and was placed but the match was not good.  One of Otis’ trainers adopted him and is his current human. She is experiencing some life changes and is unable to keep Otis.  She is absolutely heartbroken over this and can’t say enough good things about him. One of the reasons Otis did not do well in his placement is because he barks at new dogs. He does not bark at known dogs but is very vocal when encountering new ones.  This should not be mistaken for aggression.  He is a very loving and playful boy and grew up with many dogs and cats as part of his training. I had the pleasure of spending some time with Otis and must agree with his current owner, he is great. Otis is extremely affectionate and will be devoted to his human companion. If you live in Las Vegas, Otis probably looks familiar to you.  He has quite the following of local admirers! If you are interested in meeting Otis, please call SOON, time is of the essence!!!! Otis is currently in Las Vegas but will be transported to ABQ with an approved home and application.

Happy April at her foster home!

Sad April at the shelter …

ADOPTED by her foster!  This is sweet April. April ran out of time at the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Carlsbad so we arranged transport for her to come up to Albuquerque. She appears to be a purebred yellow lab, and she’s about 3 years old. She was used as a breeding dog and then left in the shelter in the overnight drop off when her “owner” was through with her. She is a very sweet girl, a little scared and a bit on the fluffy side. April is currently in a loving foster home and doing well. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet our April.

April Update on 4/17: I asked April to introduce herself.  Here’s what she had to say.  ” I’m a shy and quiet young lady.  I prefer to warm up to one person at a time with tummy rubs and soft voices.  Then I’m all yours.   I’ve not been around a lot of house noises, but it doesn’t take me long  to get used to them.  I’m already learning what a vacuum is.  I’m house trained, and once I am comfortable in your house, I love to lay in my crate..with the door open, of course, as long as you are nearby.  You can trust me at night in or out of the crate.  Since I have had puppies, I’ve put on a few pounds and could use your help getting me down to somewhere in the low/mid 50 pound range.  I was just spayed, but once I get the ok from my doctor, I’m ready to walk and shed these pounds.   I’ll keep you updated on my progress.”

Boone went to his forever home with another rescue. Yay Boone! Hi my name is Boone. If you have been following me on Luvin Labs website there are a few things I think you should know. My age was listed at 5-6 years old. Upon further investigation by the vet looking in my eyes,  my true age has come to light. It is really 9 maybe 10. I lost count a long time ago. My life has been full of adventure and intrigue.  I grew up near the border.  My first gig was at a junk yard. It wasn’t all bad  I did not enjoy being chained up during the day, but it was great having the run of the place at night.  After the owner figured out I had no real guard dog attributes,  I was let go.  From there I went to an old couple that kept me in the backyard. They where nice and kind to me, but  I was always outside. When they got too old to care for me,  I was turned loose. I ended up in Jail ( animal shelter) in Las Cruces. I was just about out of time when a Lab rescue group in Albuquerque came to my rescue.  I’m now at a foster home and boy has the house training been tough. But I finally got it,and I’m liking the life of a house dog. So here is the deal. I’m looking for a forever home where I can pass my golden years. My foster laughs at me when I get up and hustle out the door with a purpose, but by the time I reach the end of the  patio I’ve forgotten why I went out there in the first place. I have one speed and that is slow. I walk on a leash at the slowest pace possible without stopping. I really like being with people when I’m awake.(I like to take lots of naps). I get along with all dogs, but I must admit I’m a little grumpy around young dogs and all their energy.  I’m not food aggressive; I do not jump on you when you get home. I’m a good dog looking for a good forever home. For more information on Boone please call 505/362-0331

Adopted! Buddy is an beautiful chocolate lab who is around 4 years old and was recently rescued. He is currently in foster in the Santa Fe area, just waiting for his forever home. He has one big wagging tail, and a body to follow. Buddy interacts with other dogs well, but does come on with a little excitement and energy like a typical lab.  He is very attentive to correction and already trained to sit/down/shake.  Buddy takes treats with a soft mouth and is okay on a leash. Like most labs, he wants to be with “you”, and is very people social, with anice disposition.  Would do best in a home with dog-dedicated owners, exercise, long walks, and play time. Adopted! This is Miya, a two year old, beautiful black lab mix who is now in foster in Albuquerque after she ran out of time at the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Carlsbad. From Miya’s foster mom: Miya is a very sweet girl that bonds very quickly. She loves people, kids, and other dogs, but I don’t know about cats. She loves kids so much that I saw her at the recycling event actually move around adults so that she could give little kisses to the kids that were with the adults. She loves to chase after tennis balls and other toys, and loves to run around with the other dogs in the yard. She seems quite intelligent, and I think training her will be fairly easy. She’s housebroken and knows how to use the dog door. She does fine in a crate and in the house, showing no destructive tendencies. She walks pretty well on the leash, hardly pulling at all. I think she will make a wonderful new member for some lucky family out there. She is mostly black except for a white splash on her chest and tummy and her 4 white polka dot feet which are absolutely adorable, and she has the softest fur and ears, which she will let you pet and brush as long as you like. She might be mixed with Newfie but we don’t know for sure. She’s a fairly tall, slim girl, coming in at only 67 pounds. Please call us at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to meet beautiful Miya.

My name is Scottie. I like children.  I am told labs like to run and play but I do not know because I lived in a back yard. My owner’s chained me. I would love to have a home were someone would go for walks with me and pet me and play ball with me.  I am shy but really sweet and warm up really quick. Would you give me a chance?  Scottie is coming to Luvin Labs from a great sister rescue in the Tularosa area.  But … we are full up at boarding, and this sweet boy certainly deserves a foster home to come to so Scottie can feel the love and care all Labs deserve.  Can you help Scottie?  If so, please phone 505/362-0331.  Thank you, love Scottie!

Penny – “I wish I was a Lab”

April 7, 2011
posted by Jonie @ 10:20 am

Adopted! Sweet PennyPenny’s story is a sad one, but we’re hoping that some wonderful person out there will see it and decide that Penny deserves a second chance.  Penny is a rottweiler mix, possibly with lab but the shelter really doesn’t know for sure. She is black and brown and is a large size dog. She has pretty black wavy fur on her back. She is 5 years old, and her id number is C11-000468 at the Rio Rancho Animal Control in Rio Rancho, NM, 505/891-5075. Penny ended up at the shelter because her owner passed away, and Penny spent several days with her owner until they were both found. She is a sweet girl but very traumatized being at the shelter. She’s been there since March 25 which doesn’t leave her a lot of time to find a family or rescue. The brother of her owner is desperately trying to find someone to take in this lovely girl as he can’t keep her. Even the animal control officers are hoping to find her a new home, so you know she must be a good dog. I only spent a short amount of time with her, but she’s friendly, knows several of her commands, and her eyes followed me everywhere I went. We are hoping that Penny’s story will touch someone’s heart, and they will get this sweet girl out of the shelter. Please call them and ask about her if you think you can help. Thank you! 4/13/11 Update: I went to visit Penny today and got to spend some time with her outside of her cage. What a sweet girl. Still very frightened at the shelter but she did give me little kisses after she got to know me a bit. I was told that her person actually had 3 dogs and now Penny is the only one left at the shelter. We’re still hoping that someone will fall in love with this girl as much as we have.

Hi, my name is Sarah!  I would love to get out of here……my family had to move to an apartment, so they turned me in to find a new home and family to love me. They think I’m a black Lab and Irish Wolfhound mix! Both Labs and Wolfhounds have easy going natures, tend to be easy to train, are loyal family dogs and Wolfhounds tend to be quiet by nature. I am a family dog that loves to be with its people, and I’m only 3 years old so being in this cage is not good for me.  Here’s what my family had to say, I am good with kids, I don’t dig or jump fences, I’m not  destructive and I don’t bark.  How great is that?!  I have the sweetest personality and best of all, I love tummy rubs. I am ready for a new loving home and hope you will call to meet me at the Rio Rancho Animal Control 505/891-7237 and ask about animal ID C11-000017, that’s me. I’ll be here, can’t wait to meet you!!

My El Paso angel kept me in a crate when she was at work and at night, and I didn’t mind that one bit.  My previous owners cropped my tail so my rear end looks a little odd for a lab, but I am small only 45 pounds and very sweet and gentle. Please consider making me a part of your family. I have a lot of love to give !  For more information on Gracie please call 505/362-0331  3/12/11 Update from Gracie’s foster mom … “Gracie is a calm and sweet girl. Advocate Cindy in Artesia worked long and hard to find the pups and bring them safely in to the shelter where they could be transported to Albuquerque and graciously fostered with a few of their siblings’ families.  The pups are labs/weim mixes and are fabulous dogs.  All are available for adoption through Luvin’ Labs.  For more information on giving Bartley and Bosley a warm, safe place to spend the rest of their lives please call 505/362-0331.  All the pups are now in foster, Bartley and Bosley together in the same foster home!

posted by colleen @ 6:47 pm

Adopted! Bartley and his siblings Bosley and Brandy are siblings of  Luvin’ Labs alumni Summer, Polly, and Chase.  All six pups were living in a decrepit, condemned home in Artesia, NM with an owner who couldn’t afford food, but wouldn’t give them up.  Bartley was at the shelter there, then reclaimed by his “owner” to go back to living in squalor, only to be found again scrounging for food. Advocate Cindy in Artesia worked long and hard to find the pups and bring them safely into the shelter where they could be transported to Albuquerque and graciously fostered with a few of their siblings’ families.  The pups are labs/weim mixes and are fabulous dogs.  All are available for adoption through Luvin’ Labs.  For more information on giving Bartley a warm, safe place to spend the rest of his life please call 505/362-0331.  From Bartley’s foster mom …”Bartley is loving and enthusiastic. Bartley is a lab lover’s lab. Though probably a mix, he has the strong build and full head of a lab and like any dog bred to work, has the capacity to focus on the task at hand with single-mindedness. At this time, his favorite task is to chew on rawhide bones which he does with determination though, thankfully, he isn’t interested in chewing on things he shouldn’t chew on! He seems to understand my elderly father’s limits and has been generally friendly yet gentle with him.”

From his foster mom:  Kota is a tail-wagging happy go lucky neutered labbie boy.  He definitely is a ‘leaner” and loves his people more than anything.  He gets along well with my labbie crew, shows no sign of aggression (food or otherwise), and loves to run and play.  He is house trained, crate trained, does well on a leash, and knows basic commands.  He is really a treat to have around!  He does fine in the house , is just content to just lie around, and loves it even better if you are there with him.  For more information on Kota please call 505/362-0331.

Rosie

posted by colleen @ 5:51 pm

ADOPTED! Meet Rosie, a new addition to Luvin’ Labs brought up by the good folks at Las Cruces Animal Services of the Mesilla Valley just in the nick of time!  Rosie (formerly Noorah), is a lab/pointer mix who loves to hunt. Like a lot of bird dogs, she’ll need consistent training and can be strong willed. She is great with kids and other dogs. She’s curious about most things, but once she understands what they are, she loses interest. She is working on her leash training as she is most interested in hunting when out on a walk or hike and tugs. She has a lot of energy and needs exercise to wear her down. Rosie knows sit and is working on “down”. She’s definitely curious about cats and will chase them if they run. We’re working on being  friendly with cats. Don’t let her small size fool you. She’s skinny and needs to put on weight, but she’s a strong little girl. She loves her toys, and if allowed will shred them – all that pent up energy needs to escape somehow! Rosie is crate-trained and shows no signs of separation anxiety. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her shots.  For more information on Rosie please call 505/362-0331. 2/20/11 Update from Rosie’s foster dad … “Rosie is a very playful young girl who wins over your heart with her friendly disposition. She is very energetic and loves to play with other dogs. She has an active hunting instinct which she demonstrates by watching birds in the trees and chasing squirrels. She is house trained and is adept at using a dog door for bathroom necessities. She sleeps quietly through the night in a crate and lets you know she is hungry when time to eat breakfast. When she is tired at the end of the day, she will curl up on a sofa or strat-o-lounger and sleep. This girl is very intelligent, very quick in her mannerisms, and can run and jump with the best of her peers. She stands her ground against dogs that want to dominate her. She is defensive upon first meeting other dogs but warms up to them if they treat her well.”

Adopted! Chloe was surrendered to the Albuquerque Shelter because her families newest addition had asthma.  The sweet girl was brought in to one of Luvin’ Labs foster homes and is doing great.  She is around 10 years old and a big happy lab, around 100 pounds.  For more information on Chloe please call 505/362-0331.  2/9/11 update from Chloe’s foster mom … “ I’m Chloe and yes my heart is as big as me. I am a lovely 100 lb girl who is on a bit of a diet (to my dismay). I came from the shelter where my family of 10 years could no longer keep me because they had a new addition to the family who was allergic. I spent most of my time outside there after the baby arrived, but I have transitioned beautifully into an indoor girl. I love this house life. While I may be larger and older than some labs, I still like to play and frolic in my own way. I ”buck” like a little pony and attempt to chase my tail. In my foster home, I live with 2 good sized dogs and cats and other small pets. I am a little peskywith the cats but they are trying hard to teach me good manners. I am getting better on my walks. I do pull a bit for about 5-10m minutes then I settle down. I “adore” food and am leaning to sit for my meals and treats. I am friendly and easy going. I am getting over an ear infection and kennel cough and feeling much better every day.  I am patiently waiting for my forever home… is that yours??”

Adopted Hi my name is Dean, James Dean to my friends. I can not figure out why everyone calls me stray? Anyway. I was living the hard life on the streets when I ended up in jail at the City Shelter. Luvin Labs sprung me out and now I’m in a foster home. When I first got here all my street smarts and high energy made for some interesting transitions. To live on the streets requires extreme caution you have to be on full alert all the time. It took me a couple of days to get use to being in the house, walking on a leash and just generally getting the hang of this house dog stuff. My foster tells me I’m doing good just after a few days. This house has this magic dog door that lets me go in and out of the house when ever I want.  I over heard the foster telling someone what a good dog I am. No accidents in the house,no chewing, no destruction of property, walking on a leash, no aggression towards other dogs, like to be around people, come when I’m called, I know how to set,wait/stay.All the things a good house dog knows I have been doing so well I earned free run of the house. From his puppy antics we are pretty sure he’s just under a year old. For information or to help please phone 505/362-0331.

Jefferson’s Story …

January 10, 2011
posted by libby @ 5:20 pm

ADOPTED!  Folks, sweet Jefferson has been fighting what we know is pnemonia but he has not responded to 3 different antibiotics and after a week at TLC Vet Hospital, he’ moved Thursday night to VCA for evaluation by a specialist.  Luvin’ Labs donors work hard to help us out, but we are almost at the point where we will not have funds to keep helping this sweet boy.  Jefferson is absolutely a gem of a lab and, at just 10 months old, deserves a chance.  If any of you can help out we’d be so appreciative.  To help Jefferson out please click here http://www.luvinlabs.com/donate/

1/28/11 am update.  We just spoke to the good doc at VCA and he will be doing a test this morning to see if they can figure out what the bug is in his chest.  We will keep you updated on their findings.  Thank you to all of you who have helped thus far, it is a terribly hard thing to try to decide what is best for one, while we have many in need.  We appreciate you.

1/29/11 update.  Jefferson ate a little bit today a few times, this is great news as he hasn’t felt like eating since a week ago Thursday.  He loves to be up and moving around and seems to enjoy his visits from his foster mom, myself, and others that stop by.  We switched his antibiotics yesterday, hopefully the new ones do the trick and help Jefferson to begin to heal!

1/31/11 update… Jefferson hung out at the vets office today, after eating regular, small meals … we are so thrilled that he is eating!Ronight he is going home to get some TLC at a families house.  We are hoping he is on the mend … he sure has had enough good thoughts going his way!  We still are in dire need of funds to help us offset his medical bills that we’ve yet to pay, and to care for all the other wonderful pups in our program.  As always, we are incredibly grateful to each and everyone of you!!

2/6/11 Update … Best news ever, the vets cannot put their fingers on why but Jefferson continues to improve, and best of all, eat !  He is now spending a lot of time at his new loving home, and eating whatever he likes for now (any lab would love that).  He’s still on antibiotics, but the eating, and general interest in life are great indicators.  We are hopeful for a full recovery  : )

Here’s a few pics of Jefferson recovering with his family.

Luvin’ Labs is now trying to figure out how to pay off the $2700.00 worth of vet bills we incurred while taking care of Jefferson.  We’ve made some headway through the generosity of wonderful folks, but to keep on helping labs like Jefferson and treat the labs in our program currently we need to keep on raising funds.  We are eternally appreciative of any help.

Adoption Pending! Hello everyone!  I came to Luvin’ Labs from a sister rescue in Missouri that cannot help me out.  I bet you haven’t seen such a handsome chocolate Lab EVER.  I am special, you know.  I am sweet as can be, 10 months old and great with other dogs.  I’m a bit of a Lab/Chesapeake Retriever mix which makes me all the more interesting, doesn’t it?  The gals at Luvin’ Labs tell me I have the most beautiful green eyes! I’m a pup very excited about moving to New Mexico, and am looking for a loving family to share my life with.  I promise to be loving and loyal and look forward to learning some doggie training tips.  Can you make room for me?  Please phone 505/362-0331 and get more details…..and show your interest in me!  Thank you, Jefferson. (p.s. my foster mom says I’m very good with other dogs!!)

Zen

posted by colleen @ 7:28 pm

Adopted! Hello my name is Zen! If you have been following me on the web site you know I was adopted then let go, ending up in the city shelter. I moved to a new foster’s home and boy what a difference he sees in me! When I got here they kept telling me how bad my manners were.  I loved to put my front paws on the counters and check everything out. How was I to know that was wrong? And what is this about waiting for them to go through the door first? I say they  need to move faster like me. Again another bad idea. In just a few days I’m amazed at how much the foster has learned. Now instead of telling me to get off the counters 10 times it only takes him one. Since it so important to him, I let them go first always now. They are so trainable. What really surprised me is how fast they took to walking on leash.

What my foster dad sees in me … There is lots to mention … I’m curious, I have a very loving nature, I’m bold, friendly, and have no aggressions about food, dogs or people. I am not afraid of new sounds or sites.  I’m house broken, am not destructive to property, and crate trained. I’m easy to train and pick things up fast. The fosters say I’m destined to be a pack leader some day. Given the chance I would make a great service dog. I LOVE to play. The foster told me I’m the first foster dog they have had that figured out the ball is just the means to an end(running), not the end itself (possessing  the ball). I’m still young and need 3-4 walks a week to keep me calm. I prefer to have free roam of the house.  If you’re looking for a dog that is beautiful (I had to throw that in), loves to be with you on walks, camping, playing ball in the yard or watching a good movie together, I’m the dog for you.  For more information on me please call 505/362-0331.

AdoptedHi!  I am a beautiful yellow Lab boy named Dusty just waiting for the perfect loving home.  I am 1 year old all caught up on my shots and neutered.  The only thing left to do with me is to love me!  I love to go for walks and runs and play fetch with the tennis ball.  That’s how I have the most fun.  I would need you to spend some time training me though as my first family didn’t have the time to dedicate to training me.  I have lots of toys and stuff that I can bring to your house when you adopt me.  Can we give it a try?  Please call 505/362-0331 for more information on me, I’m very sweet!.  I can’t wait to meet you!  … “Dusty is in foster now and his new mom had this to say:  Dusty is just a wonderfully sweet boy!  He is great in the house – no chewing or marking and it totally housetrained.  He loves to run and play and loves other dogs.  He loves his toys: squeaky toys (not for long), tug/rope toys, balls, and bones.  He really enjoys playing Fetch.  He is wonderful with people and wants to be with his family more than anything.  He does great in a crate ,  knows all the basic commands and is very smart.  He loves to be close to his folks and just look at them with love and adoration shining out of his eyes.  He is just a real sweetheart!”

Adopted! Meet Angel. This beautiful girl is a one year old purebred chocolate Labrador Retriever who ran out of time at the Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Carlsbad. She’ll be arriving in Albuquerque by transport sometime next week and we would love to have a foster or forever home for her when she gets here. And who doesn’t like a little chocolate every once in a while? :) Once beautiful Angel arrives and we’ve had time to get to know her a little bit, we’ll update you on her personality and get some pictures of her where she isn’t so frightened. Please give us a call at 505) 362-0331 if you’d like to foster or adopt our sweet Angel.
